Town Of Little Elm is Hiring a Construction Inspector Near Little Elm, TX

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for construction inspection of all new utilities, streets, and drainage facilities within Town right-of-way, Town easements, and commercial building projects to ensure that the installation and construction is in accordance with approved design criteria and construction specifications.

EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or GED equivalency with three years in construction inspections or one-year technical school training in engineering or construction and two years experience in field construction work.

LICENSES OR CERTIFICATES

  1. Must be bondable.
  2. Valid State of Texas Drivers License
  3. Prefer combination of license and certification in construction or utilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

  1. Ability to read, write, and speak English fluently.
  2. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or authorities, or members of the local business community.
  3. Prefer bilingual speaking ability.

OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Ability to establish and meet deadlines.
  2. Self-motivated.
  3. Ability to establish and maintain good relationships with supervisors, other personnel, and external customers.
  4. Demonstrate a willingness to perform duties in a team environment.
  5. Knowledge and skill in the use of a computer.
  6. Skills coordinating and managing multiple projects and/or assignments.
  7. Knowledge of the Town specifications for the various types of construction methods, practices, and procedures.
  8. Knowledge of safety precautions in the use of tools and equipment.
  9. Ability to recognize faulty or hazardous conditions created by deterioration of misapplications of regulations.
  10. Ability to read and interpret applicable plans and specifications to detect deviations from such plans.
  11. Ability to read and understand reference books, technical material, engineering specifications and blueprints.
  12. Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.

  1. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished by management in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  2. Comprehensive ability to disseminate information quickly and perform tasks under pressure with short deadlines.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to operate various machines, drive vehicles and/or equipment; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk and hear. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to (50) fifty pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The work environment characteristics described herein are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Office conditions; outdoor environment; exposure to conditions of construction and Public Works project sites including loud noises, dust, heavy vehicles and equipment; exposure to inclement weather; exposure to traffic and other hazards while conducting field inspections; exposure to moving vehicles and equipment, slippery surfaces, and other related conditions.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  1. Responsible for inspecting properties the Town will have to maintain in the future, including the ongoing construction of assigned projects (water, sewer, paving, and drainage) and city easements on new commercial building projects.
  2. Reviews plans submitted by developers/contractors to ensure that they comply with Town specifications.
  3. Organizes daily and weekly schedules to meet deadlines.
  4. Maintains a permanent record and file on all jobs.
  5. Provides progress reports throughout the construction phase.
  6. Schedules and attends pre-construction meetings with developers, contractors and engineers to plan construction progress.
  7. provides cross-training to other employees.
  8. Inputs results of inspection into the computer system.
  9. Responds to inquiries by contractors and engineering firms regarding jobs in process and advises them on the best solutions to the problems.
  10. Respond to complaints and inquiries by citizens regarding construction problems.
