JOB TITLE: Accounting Specialist

DEPARTMENT: Administration

REPORTS TO: Director of Finance

FLSA STATUS: Hourly


Position Summary:
The Accounting Specialist is responsible for assisting the Director of Finance with accounting tasks across the Center and maintains accurate records.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Manage Accounting Operations:

  • Match vendor invoices to packing lists and order confirmations/requisitions.
  • Enter invoices in the accounting system for payments, ensuring correct approval, coding, and matching.
  • Coordinate with vendors regarding invoicing and payment inquiries and discrepancies
  • Respond to vendors' inquiries in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain bookkeeping in compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Record and track payments in databases.
  • Compile needed data to report expenditure of grant monies to any funder.

Fundamental Skills: The Bookkeeper must be skilled at record-keeping and interacting with clients and customers. A good candidate for this role should have the following skill:

  • Excellent organizational skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
  • Computer skills and understanding of financial management software.

Education/Experience:

Required

  • An Associates Degree in Accounting or a similar study is preferred but not required
  • Two (2) years of financial experience (receivables/payables)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Preferred

  • QuickBooks software understanding
  • A minimum of one (1) year of health care experience.
  • Non-profit experience
  • Health center experience
  • Experience administering grants

Language Ability: Read, analyze, and interpret complex documents. Respond effectively to sensitive inquiries. Good communication skills.

Reasoning Ability: Apply logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems.

Travel and Standard Work Schedule: Standard hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This position is sometimes responsible for working hours outside of the standard work schedule. Some travel may be required.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. The ability to work with a moderate noise level in the work environment is required.
