Position: Senior Scientist

This position is designed to support Toledo Solar’s program of innovation and continuous improvement for the manufacturing of products based on thin-film coatings for solar-electricity generation (photovoltaics). This person will help lead efforts on new product development, including federal grant-funded projects as well as supporting continuous improvement in Toledo Solar’s solar module manufacturing.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

• Use vacuum deposition techniques, including magnetron sputtering, to fabricate or modify small-area PV devices
• Use pulsed lasers to modify monolithically integrated submodules to produce prototypes for building integration
• Perform and interpret materials and device characterization measurements on solar cells, submodules and modules, including optical microscopy/spectroscopy, current-voltage, spectral quantum efficiency, electro-luminescence, and stylus profilometry
• Coordinate with outside academic scientists/collaborators on materials analyses from electron microscopy, chemical analyses, and thin-film depth profiling
• Perform additional duties as requested or assigned.
• Maintain good working relationships with colleagues.
• Follow standard OSHA, EPA and safe practices on all activities.
• Prepare written and oral reports/presentations as appropriate

Required Education and Job Qualifications:

• MS or PhD in engineering or physical-science related field, such as: electrical engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, physics, mechanical engineering
• Experience with fabrication and/or analyses of thin-film CdTe-based photovoltaic devices is highly desirable, including passivation, doping and advanced back contact
• Strong written, oral and presentation skills.
