Packaging Operator (Part-Time) Union

What you will do:

The Package Operator works at the last stages of the cheese manufacturing line to pack finished products label and aggregate them for storage or shipment to distribution outlets.

Here’s a day in the life:

  • Perform the packaging operation in accordance with product packaging specification, sorts products for packaging and filling machine operation, monitors production order fill rate and packaging line efficiencies, replenish packaging materials as needed, inspect in-process packaging to ensure consistent quality and remove defective products and packaging material in the process, segregate finished packaged items from machine that conform to specification and separate rejected items, conduct inventory court on finished and rejected packaged items, monitor packaging and filling operations to ensure quality and conformity of packaged products in accordance with standards.
  • Monitor packaging and filling operations to ensure quality and conformity of packaged products in accordance to standards and monitor the packaging production line to forestall potential bottlenecks, pileups, jams, or labels in the wrong location.
  • Adjust machines and equipment for smooth operations and make certain that the pre-op inspection is complete before start-up.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • High school diploma or GED is required. Experience in packaging or other manufacturing operations is a plus.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, and the public.
  • Communication effectively, acts as a team player, and interacts with staff at all levels of the company.
  • Computer literate with basic knowledge of Microsoft Word.
  • Demonstrate complete thorough knowledge about Tillamook products.

Physical Requirements:

  • Using tool to break open flaps o boxes, gripping boxes to shake/remove blocks of cheese and gripping 51b blocks of cheese.
  • Frequently able to generate 621bs of grip strength.
  • Frequent lifting and moving boxes and tubs of cheese.
  • Standing and lifting 45# from 6" to 34" or waist and carrying 6 ft.
  • Frequent lifting and moving tubs and blocks of cheese.
  • Standing raising and lowering 45# tubs/blocks of cheese from pallet to conveyor from/to a height 34" to 54.
  • Frequent lifting and moving tubs and blocks of cheese.
  • Standing raising and lowering 45#’s 6" to 34".
  • Moving pallets with hand pallet jack and pushing multiple tubs of cheese on carts.
  • Push/Pull Capacity for Trim/Grind and Pallet relocation.
  • Placing 45# from pallet to conveyor belt.
  • Standing moving 45# from 34" shelf to place on stationary platform at a height of 34".
  • Pull product size pieces of cheese from a cut 40# block of cheese.
  • Pulling 2# Velcro pieces apart.
