Tidewater Fleet Supply is Hiring a Controller Near Norfolk, VA

Description

Job Title: Controller

Department: Finance

Reports to: CFO

FLSA Status: Exempt

The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is expected to perform with a high degree of initiative (while at the same time collaborating with CFO and keeping the CFO appropriately informed). The Controller will also engage with the Company’s management teams and be part of teams that creates and implements policies and procedures to identify, resolve and document operational, financial and accounting opportunities and issues.

Responsibilities

Remain Staffed to Deliver

  • Oversee, supervise and support the accounting team (including, but not limited to, accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and payroll).
  • Hire, train, coach, encourage, support and retain skilled accounting staff.
  • Leverage strengths of all finance team members, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.

Financial Reporting, Compliance and Internal Controls

  • Responsible for internal and external financial reporting (including, but not limited to, annual, quarterly, monthly and weekly financial statements and creditor covenant reporting).
  • Maintain, update and continuously improve daily, weekly and monthly dashboards that display, track and inform the organization with regards to its operations and key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Oversee and supervises the monthly close process and ensure that all accounting processes are functioning efficiently and effectively and providing complete, accurate and timely accounting information, records and reports.
  • Manage compliance to include, but not limited to, financial audits (i.e.; annual CPA firm, periodic bank, property tax, sales tax, etc.), as well as local, state and federal tax reporting (i.e.; franchise, sales, income, payroll, withholding, etc., and including annual tax return preparation).
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure that appropriate internal processes and controls exist, as they pertain to the assets (esp.; cash, inventory, fixed assets) of the Company, to protect against irregularities and/or fraud.

Treasury Management

  • Manage the control environment – esp.; security of cash, checks, ACHs, wire transfers, movable assets and other valuables.
  • Oversees and supervises the monthly, quarterly and annual billings to clients for services provided and the collection of accounts receivable.
  • Responsible for the efficient and effective concentration of funds and receipt of cash inflows (i.e.; cash, checks, customer receivables, return of core, etc.) and the timely and effective disbursement of funds (i.e.; vendors, payroll, commissions, bonuses, 401(k), etc.) after giving appropriate consideration to available liquidity.
  • Responsible for and oversees all depository, checking and disbursing bank accounts and manages the day-to-day interaction with these external relationships.

Liquidity

  • Oversees and supervises accounts payable and payroll.
  • Oversees disbursements (auditing for appropriate approvals), vendor payments and related account reconciliations and ensures that appropriate internal (with buyers) and external (with vendors) collaboration occurs to endure that vendor relationships and payment terms are appropriately considered such that discounts are capitalized upon (if financially advantageous) and necessary sources of supply are not limited.
  • Manage the daily, weekly and monthly operational relationships with creditors (esp.; borrowing base management, cash flow management/reporting, interest payments, etc.)

Financial Planning and Analysis

  • Develop and continuously improve decision support reporting tools and push the same to key decision makers.
  • Manage the annual budget preparation process (i.e.; company-wide, regions, branches, departments) and prepares monthly reforecasts.
  • Develops, maintains and shares forecasting models (esp., cash flow analyses and forecasting).
  • Provides monthly and ad hoc reporting to the owner and assist in the preparation of quarterly tax projections.

Other

  • Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

  • Talking, hearing, and seeing with close visual acuity are frequently required.
  • Keying data in repetitive motion and is frequently required.
  • Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time
  • Works in a normal office setting with no exposure to adverse environmental conditions
  • Must be able to travel as needed.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of Finance and Accounting principles (GAAP), including Financial Modeling, Budget and Profitability analysis, Variance Analysis, and Financial Reporting
  • Merger and acquisition experience. Experience integrating acquisitions from an operational finance perspective would be ideal.
  • Value-add, proactive business partner who elevates the rest of the senior management team.
  • Desire to drive process improvements & efficiency in financial operations.

Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business or Finance; CPA strongly preferred.
  • Preferred at least ten years of experience in the financial function of an organization.
