Network Engineer

As a Thunderbolt Solutions team member, you will use your creativity and innovation to perform a variety of engineering tasks. Your role will focus on the detailed design, configuration, integration, and test of IP networks for projects related to the Defense Industry located in the greater Baltimore, Md. Area. These projects include upgrades to airborne surveillance systems and related ground control systems. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience with all stages of network design and management, from requirements definition through deployment and end-user support. Ideally, you will have a background in designing and configuring secure IT networks for connection to DoD systems.

In this role, you will work with systems engineering, cyber engineering, and hardware/software engineering to design, implement, configure, test, and deploy computer networks for the Persistent Surveillance Systems – Tethered (PSS-T) program.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Define detailed network requirements.
• Specify network hardware and software services.
• Configure and document networks.
• Design secure IP networks and supporting cyber-security hardening of application software.
• Write detailed user procedures for configuring and maintaining network equipment including servers, VPNs, routers and other physical hardware at remote sites.
• Create firewalls and updating virus protection software and data security systems to keep data and communications protected
• Monitor computer systems to improve network performance for all systems
• Troubleshoot, resolving, and communicating networking issues to other employees and management
• Provide input to trade studies, analysis, and documentation to supplement the development of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs) and Engineering Service Requests (ESRs).

We want YOU on our team if you have:

• Minimum of 5 years of related experience in designing, configuring, and managing networks.
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in computer systems engineering, network security management, information technology or computer science.
• CCNA, CCNP or equivalent certifications
• Demonstrated and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Understanding of electronic, electrical, computer, and networking systems.
• Ability to work non-traditional hours, weekends & holidays.
• Ability to travel to CONUS and OCONUS sites.
• Ability to lift at least 25 lbs.
• Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.
• Ability to travel 15%-30%
• U.S. Citizenship required.

Other desired qualifications include:

• Knowledge of systems engineering development methodologies.
• Experience with airborne sensors and surveillance systems.
• Excellent interpersonal skills as demonstrated by a record of influencing internal leadership and external customers on design decisions.
• Current U.S. DOD Secret Security Clearance.
