Thomaston-Upson Schools is Hiring a High School Math Teacher Near Thomaston, GA

This position is for the 2023-2024 school year.

Role: Teacher

Reports to: Principal

FLSA Status: Exempt

Contract Days: 190 days

Retirement: TRS

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teach at an appropriate instructional level.
  • Provide content development.
  • Assist all students in achieving academic standards and establishing high expectations for performance.
  • Promote student engagement and provide appropriate assessments.
  • Monitor student progress.
  • Respond to adequate and inadequate student performance.
  • Support students with encouragement and build positive relationships.
  • Participate in PLC by working collaboratively to improve teaching skills and the academic performance of students.
  • Use time efficiently.
  • Maintain effective physical setting for instruction.
  • Maintain appropriate student behavior in the classroom.
  • Follow professional practices consistent with school and system policies in working with students, students' records, parents, and colleagues.
  • Ensure adherence to the Code of Ethics for Educators in Georgia, as established by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission.
  • Integrate the use of effective technology in the curriculum.
  • Participate in training programs and apply learned concepts in the classroom to increase student learning.
  • Review current development literature and technical sources of information related to job responsibility.
  • Ensure adherence to appropriate safety procedures.
  • Follow federal and state laws, as well as Board policies and administrative directives.
  • Perform all prescribed activities outlined in the Professional Development Plan according to the time lines indicated.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Hold or be eligible for required certification.
  • Ability to work well with students, parents, staff, and the community.
  • High integrity, excellent character, and good professional reputation.
  • Abide by the Georgia Professional Standards Code of Ethics for Educators.
  • Ability to be regularly, predictably, and reliably at work.
  • Ability to perform tasks involving prolonged periods of standing, walking, and sitting.
  • Ability to perform routine physical activities such as bending and lifting/pushing/pulling up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision, hearing, written, and verbal communications are essential factors in performing required tasks.
  • Must be able to properly and consistently supervise students particularly during emergency situations.
