About the Role:  

Reporting to the Culinary Manager, the Culinary Supervisor supervises our general prep and hot-line culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a roll-up-your-sleeves approach, has a positive attitude, is a hands-on leader, works to empower and motivate their team, and thrives in a fast-paced, high-volume, evolving environment.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of the early team at Thistle’s brand new East Coast facility, located in Burlington, NJ, responsible for growing Thistle East operations to bring delicious, plant-forward, and planet-friendly meals to customers on the East Coast.

This position is 100% onsite in Burlington, NJ.

What you'll do:

  • Supervise and coordinate culinary operations for team members, including scheduling, time management, performance evaluations, hiring, and discipline
  • In collaboration with the Culinary Manager, ensure culinary production leads and culinary production staff adhere to all recipes, SOPs, policies, safety standards, and GMPs
  • Support the team with company growth and scale while maintaining quality, consistency, and accuracy of all produced products for delivery to our customers
  • Continuously guide and coach team members with proper food handling, production, storage, service, and execution
  • Identify training needs and areas for employee development and professional growth
  • Work cross-functionally with Production, R&D, Quality Assurance, and Facilities teams to ensure proper receiving, handoffs, and production standards
  • Keep all kitchen spaces to the highest level of cleanliness in accordance with local and HACCAP health codes and guidelines
  • Maintain accurate inventory of raw materials and processed food products
  • Maintain reporting and documentation; update upper management regarding culinary operations
  • Attend weekly safety meetings; maintain records of policy changes and rollouts
  • Ensure OSHA compliance standards are adhered to at all times by staff
  • Assist with weekly internal QA Audits in collaboration with the Quality Assurance team
  • Ensure that all COVID protocols are followed at all times
What you'll bring:
  • High school diploma required; degree preferred
  • Culinary Certificate highly preferred
  • 2 years as a Sous Chef or Kitchen Assistant Manager in a catering, food manufacturing, or high-volume food production environment required
  • Working knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, quality standards, OSHA regulations, and safe food handling procedures
  • Strong understanding and execution of First-In, First-Out, and product rotation
  • Strong decision-making skills and a results-driven approach
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and, at times, stressful environment
  • Desire to grow and develop leadership skills
  • Ability to form effective working relationships with a cross-functional team
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds and stoop, kneel, bend, and reach
  • Tech savvy approach to your work; proficiency with a variety of tech platforms including, but not limited to, G-Suite and Slack
