Summary, Job Description, and Qualifications


Summary:

Job Title: Parent Partner (Peer Advocate)

Normal Working Hours: 40 hours - Mix of Day and Evening hours

Reports To: Clinical Director

Essential Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities:

  1. Discover family/parent strengths and be able to create and present a strengths summary to the family/parent.
  2. During (engagement phase) discovery/strength chat, gather information to effectively complete Parents Timeline, Connections Map.
  3. Assist parents in creating and understanding Safety plan drills with and how to use them.
  4. Create and implement Safety plan drills with parents/families
  5. Assess and discuss with parent during engagement phase (1st 30 days of service) their need for ongoing support (Using Family Assessment of Support Tool-FAST) Update as changes occur or at least quarterly
  6. Attend at least 1 Child and Family Team Meeting per family per month.
  7. Complete Child and Family Team minutes during meetings as applicable to ensure the agency is meeting audit requirements.
  8. Ensure parents get copies of CFT minutes; ask them how they want a copy: ie thru US mail, email or brought to next meeting or CFT.
  9. Communicate closely with all team members and parents to ensure understanding and successful follow through on plans created within the Child and Family Team Meetings and provide updates to familes and teams as new information becomes available.
  10. Be available and on call to parents/families during crisis situations, including evenings and weekends for peer to peer support. Direct families to appropriate resources when crisis is beyond scope of education. 
  11. Meet agency service delivery and latency policy.
  12. Participate in agency meetings/trainings as required.
  13. Consistently maintain and update Outlook calendars on a weekly basis as changes occur.
  14. Be the champion for family engagement initiatives, both for individual youth and the residential program as a whole.
  15. Serve as a liaison between the residential staff, youth, and family. Coordinate family involvement in assessment services, treatment planning and implementation services, discharge planning, and visitation planning that respects the parents as an integral part of the daily lives and treatment of the youth. 
  16. Educate the family on the program and keep them informed of any changes that occur during placement.
  17. Communicate with the family. Gather information about the youth, the reason for the referral and their goals during treatment. Provide updates on the youth’s progress. 
  18. Conduct search and engagement strategies to connect youth with family and fictive kin.
  19. Advocate with the custodian, on behalf of the youth, for family and fictive kin involvement.
  20. Facilitate peer parent supports for families.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must be the biological or adoptive parent of a child/youth/young adult who has navigated mental or behavioral health, or related public child services.
  • Must be willing to share “lived” experience and publicly disclose their story as a peer to other parents who are on a similar journey with their child/youth/young adult.
  • Must meet the eligibly requirements for employment in an ODJFS CRC. Ability to use a computer; proficiency with Outlook, Word and Electronic Health Record (EHR). Related degree preferred but not required.
  • Strong communication skills, teamwork skills, and time management skills.
  • Respectful of family-centered values with an ability to connect to and engage families. 
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and maintains a driving record that allows that individual to be insurable with the insurance company providing The Village Network with vehicle insurance. 
  • Ability to comply with The Village Network requirements for using restraints including sufficient strength and completion of extensive training.
