POSITION DESCRIPTION: This position is responsible for all activities and duties in the Housekeeping and Laundry departments, ensuring the cleanliness and sanitation of the entire facility as well as full compliance with all federal, state, and local standards and guidelines for retirement and healthcare facilities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Oversees and supervises the daily cleaning activities of the housekeeping staff, inspecting a minimum of one unit per cleaner on a daily basis.
2. Ensures the maintenance, care, and cleanliness of all housekeeping equipment and supplies.
3. Trains, develops, and supervises all housekeeping and laundry staff to provide the utmost in quality and cleanliness of all Village areas.
4. Requisitions housekeeping and laundry supplies and equipment to appropriate inventory levels and within budget.
5. Cross trains staff to perform additional duties in the department to meets the every-changing needs.
6. Recruits, interviews, and screens potential staff to provide a consistent flow of applicants and adequate staffing levels.
7. Ensures compliance with policies, procedures, budget parameters, and quality standards in all housekeeping functions.
8. Maintains a productive, communicative, and timely relationship with all residents to ensure their satisfaction and needs are consistently met.
9. Ensures all staff are well-trained on the technical side of their positions but also on the importance of resident relations…what is appropriate to say and do with our residents to ensure the best possible experience in living at The Village.
10. Provides continuous feedback to staff on performance, expectations, appropriate behavior, attire, etc. to ensure the department lives up to the standards of The Village at Germantown.
11. Participates in the annual budgeting process for the housekeeping and laundry departments.
12. Prepares departmental schedules and posts by Thursday of each week.
13. Reviews and processes all time off requests, granting those in a fair and impartial manner.
14. Ensures staff is always in appropriate uniforms, clean and in good repair, as well as name tag and appropriate footwear.
15. Coaches, counsels, and develops staff as needed and appropriate.
16. Prepares annual performance reviews on all staff as warranted and using the digital performance review program.
17. In times of staff shortages, may perform cleaning duties of common areas, resident units and/or healthcare areas, as well as assisting in laundry.
18. Monitors staff attendance via the annual Attendance form.
19. Regular and punctual in attendance, setting the example for staff.
20. Performs any other duties as requested and/or assigned by Village management.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, CERTIFICATIONS, AND LICENSING:
· Must possess general knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
· Must have a strong working knowledge of computers and computer software.
· Knowledge of infectious control procedures and precautions as regards the cleaning of the facility.
· Mandatory to be a strong leader with excellent communications skills – both verbal and written, as well as listening skills.
· Must have a positive attitude toward customer satisfaction and be able to set the example for all staff to follow.
· Caring for the senior living residents and lifestyle is paramount.
· Must be a team player and work with other departments in a positive and productive manner.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
· High School Diploma or GED preferred
· Some college and additional environmental services training a plus
· A minimum of three to five years in a similar role either in the hospital, retirement community, or hospitality environments.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Must be in good health to be able to walk long distances frequently, sit, stand, bend, and lift objects upwards of 50 pounds.
· Requires reaching above and below the waist line and/or shoulder height.
· Manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination necessary.
· Must maintain a professional appearance at all times.
