Verland is hiring Exceptional People to provide Compassionate Care as the Director of Nursing at the Main Campus (Intermitted Care Facility) in the Sewickley area. The Director of Nursing is responsible for leading and supervising the clinical nursing care provided in the ICF/IDD Program. This position is ultimately responsible and accountable for the nursing care received by residents. This is a salaried, exempt position that reports to the VP, Clinical Services. 


Director of Nursing Duties Include:

  

  • Directing the nursing department, including planning, establishing, administering and maintaining nursing care policies, standards and procedures. 
  • Communicating with families, residents, and physicians as needed. 
  • Ensures nursing is in compliance with regulatory agencies in order to maintain ICF/IDD certification. Participates in on-site audits and completes Plans of Corrective Actions (POC) for nursing as needed. Ensures successful implementation and completion of POCs. 
  • Manages department supply ordering and equipment requests. 
  • Cooperates with multi-discipline program managers concerning the coordination and integration of nursing care with services provided by other disciplines. 
  • Provides direction for nursing care and treatment provided to Individuals to ensure continuity of care. 
  • Reviews staffing requirements for nursing care, evaluates effectiveness of staff utilization, and assigns/reassigns staff to maintain coverage. 
  • Oversees monitoring of nurses administering medication for accuracy. 
  • Holds departmental meetings on a monthly basis. 
  • Required to participate in on-call duties to ensure 24-hour RN access to Verland.
  • Develop nursing department objectives in cooperation with the Interdisciplinary Team on health maintenance requirements for each individual at admission and at least annually thereafter.
  • Supervise and monitor identification of health care needs on plan of care and recommend revisions as needed.
  • Oversees resident admission and discharge procedures in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Oversees pharmacy activities, to include delivery of medications, and ensures accurate documentation from the pharmacy. 
  • Coordinates quarterly Pharmacy and Therapeutics meetings with pharmacy representative to review errors, process improvements. 
  • Recruits, hires, trains, establishes clear expectations, and completes performance evaluations and corrective actions for direct reports.
  • Is able to administer medications via all routes without error, unrestricted, to include controlled substances. 
  • Assign duties and responsibilities to nursing department staff.
  • Provide and assist in orientation and the in-service education programs for nursing personnel.
  • Coordinate functions of the Medical Department, including medical staff, provisions of dental, podiatry and psychiatry services and other medical consultants, as part of the Interdisciplinary Team and in the community. 
  • Completes review of HCSIS/EIM reports for Incident Management, completes medication error investigations as necessary. Signs all Incident/Accident reports. 
  • Attends and participates in management meetings.
  • Supervises ADON, Charge Nurses, Staff RNs and LPNs, Clinic Nurses and Unit Secretary.      
  • Maintain and update immunizations for all individuals, including all Bi-annual Physicals.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of disaster plans and procedures. 
  • Perform related duties as required.  





Requirements

  

REQUIRED ABILITIES AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge of current best practices/evidence based practice in the field of nursing.      
  • Possess a strong understanding of nursing standards of care, and federal and state regulations. 
  • Must be able to think critically, and adapt quickly to new situations. 
  • Ability to plan, direct, administer and coordinate the work of professional and non-professional staff providing nursing care in an ICF/IDD
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, representatives of community agencies, and the general public. 
  • A high level of professionalism, excellent communication skills, and compassionate leadership qualities are required. 
  • Works independently without constant supervision and completes work tasks.
  • Ability to relate to individuals, department, management, resident care staff, nursing staff, medical staff, consultants, parents, guardians, and community in an effective and constructive manner. 
  • Must posses and maintain a Driver’s License.
  • Must have and maintain all required clearances.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an active, unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse in the state of PA. Bachelor’s degree in nursing is required. 
  • Eight years of professional nursing experience (preferably in IDD field), including three years in a managerial capacity.
  • A master’s degree in nursing administration may be substituted for up to one year of required general professional nursing work experience. 
  • Must have demonstrated administrative ability. 
  • Experience in a supervisory role is required.
