Purpose To provide maintenance and repair work for a variety of tasks in one or more craft areas in the operation of the residence halls. Perform maintenance and repair tasks independently and/or assist journey-level craft workers. Assist in providing a comfortable living environment for students in residence halls. Responsibilities Perform tasks from work orders provided by supervisor or crew leader. Demonstrate excellent interpersonal communication and customer service skills. Communicate with supervisor, staff, and student residents regarding needed repairs and work order status on a daily basis. Work with supervisor and crew leader on work orders that need assistance from other trades. Sign out, track, and account for all inventory used and/or taken from the shop. Assist electrician technicians in installations and make readies in apartments. Check and maintain electrical systems. Change out lamps, ceiling fan switches, and perform minor electrical repairs. Work with other trades as required. Assist HVAC Technicians in the installation of HVAC systems and performing preventative maintenance on units. Assist in changing out air filters in student apartments and offices. Assist plumbers in minor plumbing repairs, maintenance of sewer systems, and make readies. Assist in replacing and servicing kitchen sinks, bathtubs, lavatories, and toilets. Assist carpenters in installations and repairs of make-readies, doors, cabinets, windows, floors, drywall, framing, and roof repairs. Assist all trades with preventative maintenance changing out air filters, assisting in the repair of shop equipment (dollies, drain machines, etc.), and inventory management. Submit paperwork in a timely manner. Accuracy and timeliness of dailies, mileage reports, and computer-oriented weeklies filled out correctly and submitted on time each week. Work orders filled out correctly. Notes on work orders indicate what work was done, tests performed, possible charges, and explanations for unusual delays or parts. Pick up supplies and drive a UT vehicle. Carry a UT cell phone for the on-call rotation and respond to emergencies as requested. Perform and respond to emergency repairs 24/7 and facilitate completion as needed. Work weekends and overtime as determined by the supervisor. Promote the professional development of self and all staff to improve knowledge and work skills through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training. Required Qualifications High school graduation or GED. Two years of experience in performing installation, operation, construction, maintenance, and/or repair work. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications More than two years of experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and/or building maintenance and repair environments. Experience installing and repairing doors, showers, toilets, and lavatories. More than two years of experience in carpentry. Prior UT experience. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with others and in a team environment. Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing). Salary Range $41,600 depending on qualifications Working Conditions Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished). May work in all weather conditions. May work in extreme temperatures. May work around chemical fumes. May work around standard office conditions. May work around chemicals. May work around electrical and mechanical hazards. Repetitive use of keyboard at a workstation. Use of manual dexterity. Climbing stairs. Climbing of ladders. Lifting and moving. Pushing, pulling, and moving a max force of 212 lbs. Lifting and moving 80 lbs. The successful candidate will be required to successfully complete testing for strength and agility prior to employment. Work Shift Monday - Friday, 7:30AM - 4:30PM. Workdays, area, and hours may vary based on the department needs.
