Job Description

POSITION: Staff Accountant

DEPARTMENT: Accounting Department

REPORTS TO: Controller

REVIEWED BY: VP of Finance and Human Resources

STATUS: Exempt

REVIEW CATEGORY: Professional

SUPERCEDES: 3/1/2020

POSITION SUMMARY: Prepares and records various general ledger entries, reconciles general ledger accounts, and prepares various reports and analysis. Maintains the fixed asset system, posts all fixed asset related journal entries, and prepares related reporting. Serves as a backup to critical Accounting processes such as cashiering and accounts payable.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. Prepares and records various daily, weekly and monthly journal entries. b. Performs various account reconciliations and researches and corrects account discrepancies. c. Processes and deposits miscellaneous receipts. Records journal entries for cash receipts. d. Assists the Payroll Administrator in daily cashiering responsibilities including verifying deposits, scanning checks, maintaining change fund, and preparing deposits. e. Prepares and tracks miscellaneous invoices. f. Prepares documentation for external audits. g. Completes Census Bureau and other reporting as needed. h. Serves as primary back-up to the AP Coordinator. i. Performs unclaimed property due diligence. j. Records income related to physician’s activities outside of the clinic, Shared Savings, Quality Bonus, and prepares related journal entries. k. Assists finance team with reporting and special projects as needed. l. Prepares quarterly reports for management and administration. m. Notifies Director of Research when research income is received and prepares related journal entries. n. Reconciles ACH payments received to retail pharmacy POS system. o. Manages Intercompany transactions and reconciliations. p. Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions. q. Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards. r. Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate. s. Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Education/Certification/License: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business required. Minimum of one year experience in Accounting or related field preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Candidate must be proficient in MS Word and MS Excel. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills, as well as strong analytical and organizational skills. Candidate must be detail oriented and have a customer service orientation.

Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading.
