Job Description

POSITION: Nail Technician

DEPARTMENT: Podiatry

REPORTS TO: Practice Manager

REVIEWED BY: Practice Manager and Human Resources

STATUS: Non-Exempt

REVIEW CATEGORY: Clinical Patient Care

POSITION SUMMARY: Assists Doctors with patient care to include providing nail care and casting patients for orthotics.

POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provides ongoing triage and management of office flow to meet patient’s medical and service needs in order to maintain optimal patient flow.

Performs the technical component of the department’s clinical procedures competently.

Documentation of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follows appropriate legal guidelines.

Communication of all patient care is thorough, objective, concise, and follow appropriate legal guidelines.

Receives patients professionally in waiting area and rooms them per department protocol.

Demonstrates proper technique to apply splints, casts, and dressing changes under Physician direction and Physician orders.

Communicates with Physicians, patients, and families about patient status, treatment and progress as requested.

Prepares Physician orders for diagnostic testing and treatment for physician signature.

Trims toenails under the direction and order of Physician.

Maintains proper sterilization of instruments and adhere to operating procedures.

Prepares and casts patients for orthotics. Follow protocol for sending and receiving from orthotic vendors.

Takes and responds to telephone messages as requested.

Preps charts for appointments and procedures, obtaining all pre appointment and post appointment information from a variety of sources as requested.

Demonstrates ability to prioritize and organize time by completing work within assigned limits.

Accepts additional responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Maintains awareness of current policies and procedures

Maintains confidentiality of patient information.

Attends department’s staff meetings.

Maintains OSHA compliance.

Appropriately responds to emergency situations (knowledge of codes).

Exhibits computer systems knowledge and proficiency as necessary to perform job functions.

Demonstrates the attitudes and behaviors of The South Bend Clinic Service Standards.

Performs other duties as assigned when appropriate.

Adheres to HIPAA guidelines set forth in Clinic policies and procedures.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:Education/Certification/License: Podiatry experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must be a team player, and customer service oriented. Must have proficient computer skills including EMR. Must be highly organized and able to multi-task and enjoy working in a very fast paced environment. Must be able to work with diverse patient bases of all ages. Must be able to assist with clinical procedures including trimming toenails, excisions, casting, etc. Must be able to perform basic back office skills such as medication administration, injections, bandaging. Have ability to accurately document and sterilize instruments. In addition, must be able to anticipate the needs of the Doctor and require minimal supervision. Prior experience is plus.

Visual Acuity:

Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading.

Environmental Conditions:

The worker is subject to hazards including moving mechanical parts, electricity, high places, or chemicals.
