Job Description

About SEED:

The mission of SEED schools is to prepare students academically, socially, and emotionally, for success in and beyond college in a public, college-prep, boarding school setting. 


Key Responsibilities


The Facilities Assistant will work closely with the Facilities Manager and the Director of Operations to support all facilities and maintenance activities for The SEED School of Miami and its staff.  The Facilities Assistant will perform general preventive maintenance, execute corrective repair and take effective safety and security measures of the building and grounds. The work schedule is generally Monday through Friday, but will include some evenings, weekends and overnight events to accommodate work projects and special assignments.  This position reports to the Director of Operations but works in collaboration with the Facilities & Construction Manager. 

  • Assist the Facilities Manager and DOO in all aspects of project implementation as needed. 

  • Assist with maintenance requests from staff including but not limited to replacing light bulbs, fixing broken furniture, plastering damaged walls, painting touch up jobs, hanging pictures, office repairs and other requests. 

  • Maintain storage of basic maintenance supplies to be able to respond to facilities requests in a prompt manner.

  • Maintain a schedule and ensure completion of the various maintenance/repair needs of school’s vehicles.  Conduct preventive maintenance activities to ensure maximum efficiency ad life of vehicles.  Ensure proper licensing of all vehicles. 

  • Assist in the maintenance of plumbing system at dormitory and academic site. 

  • Daily inspections of facility space/fixtures and proper functioning of faculties and all assigned equipment (conduct daily walkthroughs) 

  • Prepare/set up conference rooms and other areas for meetings.

  • Ensure security of facilities by locking and unlocking doors and/or installing and maintaining various safety components (i.e. fire alarm covers) as assigned. 

  • Assist in moving office furniture, fixtures and equipment, to support staff changes, relocations, remodels and program expansion.

  • Assist with special projects and unit report requirements, including troubleshooting and timely implementation of corrective action(s).

  • Provide administrative support to the Operations Department (mailings, running errands, distributing supplies, etc.)

  • Drive a moving truck to transport student luggage and furniture 

  • Operate a variety of equipment and hand tools to perform work. 

  • Be on call to be available to respond to emergency calls as needed.

  • Perform as a member of the Operations Team and support all campus emergency situations. 

  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience & Education:

  • High School Diploma, Associates Degree preferred

  • General experience in generating basic maintenance reports or logs

  • Experience with using basic hand and power tools

  • Valid driver’s license


Language Skills:

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret orders

  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from staff members, customers, board members

  • Ability to effectively present information to supervisors, customers and others

  • Ability to analyze and solve basic maintenance issues


Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to stand; walk; sit; use hands or feet to handle objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop; kneel; crouch or crawl.  The employee must be able to frequently lift and/or move boxes up to 50 lbs. in weight and occasionally lift and/or move boxes up to 75 lbs in weight.  Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.


Hours and Work Year:  This is a full-time, 12-month position, with occasional Sunday and evening hours
