Stock, arrange, and display furniture, bric-a-brac, books, clothes, and other similar products; rotate and/or rearrange stock as needed; return items to the proper location. Perform routine security activities while observing customers shopping in the store. May assist with moving donations to the storage area; prepare and provide donation receipts. Perform various cleaning activities, including but not limited to clean display racks, shelves, windows, mirrors, storage area; sweep and mop floors; clean other areas as needed. Answer the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner. Job Functions:Assists customers by explaining store policy and responding to questions regarding the pricing and/or purchasing of items; ensure that all customers visiting the store have a pleasant experience. Assists customers who are donating items to The Salvation Army by directing them to the proper loading/unloading area; may assist with moving donations to the storage area; prepare and provides receipts. Observes customers activities in the store to discourage shoplifting and to prevent the switching of tags or tampering with merchandise. Stocks, arranges, and displays furniture, bric-a-brac, books and clothes, and other similar products; rotate and/or rearrange stock as directed; return items to the proper location. Rags out merchandise and put new merchandise out in colorized order per established Salvation Army policies and procedures. Answers the store telephone in a tactful and courteous manner; assist customers by responding to questions and providing directions and/or general information. Performs various cleaning activities, including, but not limited to, cleans display racks, shelves, windows, mirrors; storage area; sweep and mop floors and other areas as needed. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of effective customer service techniques. Knowledge of the principles and practices of basic mathematics. Ability to read, write, and effectively communicate in the English language. Education and Experience:High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred and experience working in a retail store preferred or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications:None. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time. Moderate physical effort required associated with sitting, walking, standing, lifting, bending, reaching, twisting, pushing, pulling, 75% to 100% of the work time and carrying light to heavy objects (typically less than 50 lbs) 75-100% of work time. May involve the moving and rearranging of furniture which could result in moving items weighing more than 100 pounds. Work is generally performed in a normal store environment where there would be little or no physical discomforts associated with weather changes or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt and the like. Some work may be performed in a warehouse environment where there would be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
