Shelter Director The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Shelter Director for our Fayetteville Corps located in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
The Shelter Director supervises the operations and support staff of the emergency shelter, Supportive Housing tower, and Project Able programs serving the homeless. The Director supervises janitorial operations and employees. This position works cooperatively as a member of the interdisciplinary program team in a leadership capacity during emergency disaster operations.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of shelter service program development and administration. Knowledge of the principles and practices of crisis intervention. Knowledge of effective communication and motivation practices. Knowledge of the principles and practices of facility management and janitorial services. Ability to motivate, lead, supervise, and evaluate subordinate personnel. Ability to implement and enforce program policies and procedures. Ability to identify potential cases of child or adult abuse/neglect circumstances and determine necessary appropriate actions. Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions during state of crisis. Ability to work with the public encompassing all types of behaviors. Ability to interview clients and obtain pertinent information relating to client complaints. Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work in order to accomplish work in compliance with quality standards and deadlines. Ability to build and maintain effective, professional working relationships with clients. Knowledge of The Salvation Army mission and philosophy. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to perform mathematical computations.
Education and Experience
High school diploma or G.E.D. AND five years supervisory experience in a social services and/or homeless program environment OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, liftingand carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.).
Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking.
Ability to meet attendance requirements
Work is performed in a normal office environment where there is little or no physical discomfort, with the understanding that Christmas center assignments and locations may vary.
