The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an IT Manager I for the Houston Conroe Corps, located in Houston, Texas.
Manages the day-to-day operations and administration of the Information Technology Department; provides technical expertise and support to the Corps throughout the AC in order to maintain optimal operating level of all computer systems; provides leadership and direction for the IT team; installs, maintains, and troubleshoots operating systems and applications; travels throughout AC to survey site locations in order to determine the most appropriate computer equipment and method of installation or to troubleshoot existing system problems; serves as a technical representative to Territorial Headquarters and outside vendors on behalf of the Corps.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of the principles and practices of computer programming logic. Knowledge of data and word processing concepts and practices. Knowledge of operating system and database capabilities, installation, and maintenance. Knowledge of the capabilities of microcomputers and peripheral devises. Knowledge of the principles and practices of the supervision and management of IT professionals. Operational and application knowledge of the following: Microsoft Office and Windows operating systems. Knowledge of the process employed to determine the applicability of a specific product to a given functional area. Ability to visualize how a computer based product may best be used to address specific functional needs. Ability to analyze and resolve problems with hardware and software. Ability to debug and troubleshoot programming for Windows operating systems. Ability to identify and obtain resolutions to problems relating to a product and its application to a specific needs. Ability to determine compatibility between various software programs and hardware. Ability to research, select, and purchase the most effective products to meet the micro computer needs of The Salvation Army all at an economical price. Ability to supervise, motivate and evaluate the work of IT personnel. Ability to plan and assign work. Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work performances and provide recommendations for improving productivity and efficiency of work. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with Territorial Headquarter employees.
Education and Experience
Associate’s Degree in Information Technology or related field or two years of technical college from an accredited college or university – Required And Six (6) years progressively responsible experience including IT Management and business operations leadership experience, staff supervisory experience and broad technical expertise in all technology operations and services supported by the assigned location. Or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Certifications Valid State Drivers License. One or more relevant IT certifications preferred.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
Work requires traveling to various locations throughout the region and staying overnight in order to complete installation projects or to troubleshoot computer problems. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, walking up step ladders, and carrying light to medium objects (less than 25-60 pounds) 10 - 15% of work time. Working Conditions Work is usually performed in a normal office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like,
