The Salvation Army USA Southern Territory is Hiring a Human Resources Assistant Near Jackson, MS

The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Human Resource Assistant for the Jackson MS Corps, located in Jackson, MS. Job Summary: Performs a variety of clerical support work for the Corps Administration department, including human resources support functions, assisting with accounting money-handling processes, and basic technology support. The primary responsibilities will include HR activities, such as: filing; processes electronic and manual new hire/termination requests, background check submission requests and e-verify entries; monitors attendance balances and leave requests; audits and performs data entry and edits in the time keeping system; prepares and tracks health insurance enrollment/termination information; assists and trains employees in proper usage of the implemented human capital management system; performs a variety of clerical support work including routine typing and photocopying of reoccurring correspondence, forms, lists, logs, records etc. under close supervision of an immediate supervisor; processes incoming and outgoing mail. Relieves the Corps Receptionist during meals, breaks, leave, and upon request; answers the telephone in a courteous manner and directs calls to the appropriate destination; records accurate and complete messages when necessary; greets and announces visitors and clients; provides general information about The Salvation Army's operations and services. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to follow both verbal and written instructions. Ability maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items can be retrieved in a timely manner. Knowledge of general office practices and procedures. Knowledge of acceptable driving techniques and practices. Ability to maintain the confidential nature of personnel related information. Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff. Ability to prepare payroll records and meet established deadlines. Experience and Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. required supplemented by additional secretarial courses preferred, and two years of experience performing human resources support work in an office environment, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Licenses and Certifications: Approved background check report required and Valid Driver’s License Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to type and keypunch information into a computer. Ability to operate various general office equipment including a computer, photocopy machine, typewriter, facsimile, calculator. Ability to answer the telephone in a courteous and tactful manner. Ability to sort and file items alphabetically and numerically. Ability to perform routine mathematical computations and count money. Duties are usually performed seated.Sitting may be relieved by brief or occasional periods of standing or walking. Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.) 5-10% of work time.
