The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has an opening for an Buyer II for the Southern Territory Headquarters, located in Atlanta, Georgia. Job Summary Performs various functions associated with the procurement of goods and services; obtains competitive bids for purchases; communicates in a professional manner with suppliers and customers; Helps maintain proper stock levels; researches product availability; identifies new items for sale; places special orders and regular stock, uniform and drop-ship orders; maintains and updates vendor files; follows up and expedites open purchase orders.; Researches and resolves discrepancies in stock quantities. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of the practices and procedures of retail procurement and bid administration. Knowledge of general office and retail procedures. Knowledge of principles and practices of customer service. Ability to learn and understand the general practices, policies and procedures of The Salvation Army ministry and organization. Ability to maintain an efficient and organized filing system to ensure that items may be retrieved in a timely manner. Ability to resolve inquiries and problems in a calm, courteous, timely and professional manner. Ability to process work in compliance with departmental policies and procedures. Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language. Ability to sort items alphabetically and numerically. Ability to operate a computer. Ability to follow instructions with limited supervision. Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including markup, discounts, bulk pricing, etc. Ability to locate items in stockroom or warehouse according to established system of organization. Ability to operate cash register, compute discounts and count change. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail with constant breaks in routine associated with answering phones or speaking in person to customers and suppliers. Physical ability to carry and /or lift /push/pull objects (up to 25 lbs). Duties are usually performed seated. Sitting may be relieved by occasional periods of standing or walking as related to necessary trips between office and store/stockroom/warehouse locations. Education and Experience High School diploma or G.E.D required (Associates degree in a business-related field preferred), and Two years progressively responsible experience working in a retail environment. Purchasing responsibilities preferred. APP (Accredited Purchasing Practitioner) or CPPO (Certified Public Purchasing Officer) preferred. or any equivalent combination of training or experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Licenses & Certifications: Valid State of Georgia driver’s license. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions Work is performed in a busy office, stockroom and/or warehouse environment with little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather and occasional physical discomforts associated with noise, crowds, dust, lint, chemical odors and the like.
