The Salvation Army Eastern Territory is Hiring an Education Specialist Near Union, NJ

Overview

Under the direction of the Education Director, the Education Specialist will help manage and coordinate ongoing professional development, activities, and special events and provide licensing and best practice guidance for new and existing education programming across the division.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Childcare Directors to create a school-wide action plan for maintaining quality programming standards established by The Salvation Army, NJSACC, Grow NJ Kids, and the NJ Office of Licensing.
  • Serve as subject matter expert in childcare licensing and best practices in a childcare setting.
  • Support childcare programs in maintaining their childcare license (including assistance with renewal applications).
  • Assist with the hiring process for licensed childcare or summer Program Directors.
  • Help develop programming materials that meet state and federal educational guidelines and standards.
  • Research and provide information and guidance regarding a range of effective and innovative developmentally appropriate practices through various activities such as:
    • Individual discussions (informal and formal),
    • Coaching sessions,
    • Targeted assistance, and
    • Professional development.
  • Assist Childcare Directors with staff and student retention.
  • Provide onsite education program assistance as needed.
  • Plan, organize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously, meet established timelines and deadlines, and regularly evaluate outcomes.
  • Collaborate with Education Director to develop and administer education training, workshops, and professional development to the division.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate data to inform the educational practice.
  • Report to and collaborate with Education Director.
  • Provide accurate and timely reporting of program status as needed.
  • Maintain a personal and professional development plan.
  • Other duties within the scope of the role as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related subject required.
  • Proven program implementation and program development experience required.
  • Knowledge of the New Jersey childcare licensing system, local, and statewide educational resources.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal intelligence and conflict resolution experience.
  • Experience working in multicultural contexts with diverse populations.
  • Willingness to collaborate on projects and work with a team.
  • Ability to work independently and maintain confidentiality.
  • Proficient in Microsoft O365 (Word, Teams, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel).
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, with a proven ability to keep accurate records.
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize competing deadlines.
  • Must understand and support the mission of The Salvation Army.
