TITLE: Research Investigator

REPORTING TO: Natalia Teleshova, Senior Scientist

LOCATION: Center for Biomedical Research, New York, NY

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The Center for Biomedical Research (CBR) is seeking a research investigator to conduct preclinical testing of candidate multipurpose prevention products being developed by the Population Council. The scope of work includes exploratory analyses to inform product safety and activity. The role also includes exploration of new targets, new active pharmaceutical ingredients for prevention of HIV, other sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and to promote vaginal health. The Research Investigator will work with in vitro assays (cell-based and tissue-based assays, primary human and non-human primate cells and tissues) and murine STI models. The individual in this role will also lead grant applications, write manuscripts and present research at conferences. 

This position is an excellent opportunity to participate in product development; gain exposure, learn and engage in preclinical product testing and mucosal immunology in the Teleshova Lab. The Research Investigator will interact closely with researchers in other biomedical laboratories at the Population Council to advance product development. 

The Population Council laboratories are located on the Rockefeller University campus, through which there is access to numerous additional state-of-the-art facilities.

A strong internal candidate has been identified.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Execute multipurpose prevention products testing in vitro and in vivo.

2. Participate in development and optimization of novel in vitro and in vivo assays for products testing.

3. Work closely with other biomedical researchers in testing new products and exploring new biological methods.

4. Compile and analyze research data.

5. Present work at internal meetings and participate in scientific journal clubs.

6. Publish research in peer-reviewed scientific journals.

7. Assist in the preparation of grant applications and lead grant applications to secure funding for research.

8. Train junior researchers on laboratory techniques

QUALIFICATIONS: 

We understand that there are many paths to acquiring expertise and experience and strong candidates may not have every qualification listed here. We encourage applications from individuals with diverse and/or nontraditional backgrounds who bring passion, skills, and experience in many or most of these areas. 

1. PhD with a minimum of 1 year of relevant biomedical research experience.

2. Experience in microbiology, molecular biology, virology, cell biology, cell and/or tissue culture, and flow cytometry; experience with murine models.

3. Highly motivated and excellent attention to details with the ability to work independently and within a group as needed.

4. Record of quality scientific work.

5. Demonstrated ability to monitor and maintain project timelines. 

6. Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. 

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary range between $67,000-$79,000 annually, depending on knowledge, skills and experience.

Excellent benefits package includes:
