Founded in 1838, The Pennington School is an independent, coeducational school serving day and boarding students in grades 6 through 12. Total student enrollment is approximately 525, of which 25% are boarding students.

We are currently seeking a Maintenance Mechanic-HVAC responsible for the overall maintenance of the heating and cooling systems of the School's campus.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs, as requested, light maintenance of all heating, cooling, and ventilation systems and completes all PMs
• Responds to emergency calls for system and equipment failure
• Troubleshoots, diagnoses, and orders parts and materials for job completion to ensure safety of systems and trouble-free operation
• Reads blueprints and isometrics; prepares sketches as required to document work
• Performs additional duties requested by the Supervisor/Maintenance Manager in order to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the campus
• Participates in general maintenance activities on all buildings (not limited to a certain zone or building)
• Plans, organizes, and schedules the work in a manner consistent with efficient standards
• Delivers on-time services to students, faculty, and staff for heat and air in all buildings on campus
• Repairs or replaces pumps, filters, valves, controls, sensors, etc.
• Maintains log books pertaining to HVAC equipment
• Maintains a clean and orderly mechanical room
• Performs tasks that are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, which may be altered or redesigned as necessary
• Manages building controls systems

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Must possess current EPA certification to handle refrigerants
• NJ Black Seal required
• Valid driver's license is required
• Certificates in plumbing, electricity, and carpentry, and/or Commercial Driver's License are a plus
• Ability to periodically work beyond and outside the typical work day and occasionally on weekends in order to meet the needs of the School
• Flexibility to assist in other areas of the department as needed
• Ability to implement all plans formulated by Engineering/Maintenance Manager
• Ability to adjust to new industry techniques and become familiar with new equipment as required
• Ability to communicate and work effectively with residents and staff and to function under general supervision.
• Flexibility and integrity needed to work in a collaborative, trust-based style
• Personal qualities including resilience, approachability, and kindness
• Must pass State of New Jersey criminal background check
• High school graduate or GED required
• 10 years of experience in HVAC maintenance preferred

This Maintenance Mechanic-HVAC position is full-time, twelve (12) months per year, non-exempt (hourly), and benefits-eligible. The working environment is an office and school environment on a 55-acre campus in Pennington, New Jersey. The abilities to walk up and down stairs, attend meetings in varying locations throughout campus, and continually use computers and related office equipment are required. Not all buildings on campus have elevators. All employees must be fingerprinted and pass a full criminal history background check.
