The Movement Cooperative is Hiring a Remote Director of Development

Director of Development, Remote

Organization Overview:

Do you want to ensure that progressive organizations have access to the best possible data, technology, and technical expertise? We know movement organizing and advocacy are more urgent than ever and many organizations and activists cannot easily access the tools to scale their work.

Launched in 2018, The Movement Cooperative (TMC) is a nonprofit founded with the aim of creating a cooperative community addressing these structural challenges. Currently, our membership stands at nearly 75 national member organizations and 500 state-based organizations covered under our licenses. We leverage the collective purchasing power of our membership to secure cooperatively held data and technology licenses shared across the membership and invest in common infrastructure like technical staff to support our members in their work. TMC is also a member cooperative -- our board is elected by and made up of our member organizations.

Position Overview:

Do you want to support a mission-driven organization that aligns your philosophical and professional passions? The Director of Development is a critical part of the leadership team at TMC, focused on connecting the complex and important work of the cooperative with donors who are aligned with supporting the progressive movement. The Director of Development will design and spearhead all donor-related initiatives, working with leadership to identify, explore, pitch, and maintain deep connections with invested funders, overseeing the creation of all grant and briefing materials. The Director of Development will support and report directly to the CEO. Potential to be elevated to a Senior Director position with commensurate skills and experience.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with the CEO, staff, and TMC board to facilitate short and long-term strategic plans, focusing on philanthropic investment in the organization’s growth.
  • Identify and address development issues that affect the well-being and efficacy of the organization.
  • Foster a culture of philanthropy and ensure that philanthropic development is executed in keeping with the organization's values, vision, and mission.
  • Participate with the CEO and senior management to plan the organization's development course, donor events, briefings, and programs.
  • Manage development activities in coordination with technical and specialist staff, with a commitment to translating technical advancements into accessible language.
  • Establish a balanced mix of donor sources and fundraising programs to attract and retain major donors, foundations, and funds for multi-year grants.
  • Establish performance measures, monitor results, and evaluate the efficacy of the development program.
  • Maintain accountability and ensure compliance with all regulations and laws, including c3 and c4 entities.
  • Keep abreast of developments in philanthropy and fund development.
  • Represent TMC in development and fundraising activities, including donor meetings, conferences, and gatherings.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of working on a computer.
  • Some travel required.

Benefits:

While a very young organization, The Movement Cooperative is dedicated to providing all employees a competitive salary, world-class healthcare, dental and vision benefits, retirement, unlimited paid vacation and sick days, flexible holidays, all-staff holidays, remote virtual office, paid parental and adoption family leaves, and health and wellness benefits. The salary range for this position is $135-155K annually. This is a full-time exempt position.

Please submit your resume and a cover letter detailing why you are interested in this role and your qualifications, in PDF format. Here’s what you can expect from our interview process:

  • Application Review
  • Phone Screening ~15-25 minutes
