Summary

To develop and implement the vision for academic and information technology at The Mount Vernon School (MV or School) and continue to enhance and support an environment where innovation and superlative customer service is welcomed and encouraged. To lead a team of technology specialists in managing the technology infrastructure, all School applications and platforms, and provide and technical support to students, faculty, staff, and parents.

The School has 1,200 students and 250 employees located over 40 acres, 11 buildings and two (2) campuses. The Upper Campus consisting of the Middle School, grades 6 – 8; and the Upper School, grades 9 – 12; and Lower Campus consisting of Preschool, Prek3 – PreK5 (as well as infants and toddlers); and Lower School consisting of grades K – 5.

Role & Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • ­Provide dynamic leadership, vision and direction through hard work & discipline, for campus wide technology applications, initiatives, and support services
  • ­ Provide leadership in operational and strategic planning related to instructional technology
  • ­ Assess current applications, platforms, and equipment along with industry leading tools to continuously improve the School’s technology, solutions, and resource requirements to maximize the value of the school’s information technology resources, to accomplish program, operational, and business objectives
  • ­ Direct department personnel for the purpose of prioritizing project deadlines and ensuring optimal utilization of human resources. Perform personnel administrative functions, including hiring, developing, training, supervising, and evaluating department staff to ensure that departmental goals are achieved
  • ­ Research and forecast trends, products, equipment, making recommendations for system enhancements, long term strategic planning, technical acquisitions and product implementation
  • ­ Negotiate and manage vendor bids, agreements and contracts for hardware, software and technology related services
  • ­ Actively engage in all IT responsibilities as required to ensure the success of the network and more importantly the School to include daily activities, monthly and annual planning, and ad hoc requirements
  • ­ Responsible for technology department budget preparation and management

Network Infrastructure Stability

  • ­ Ensure the integrity and continual operation of campus network infrastructure and mission critical operations
  • ­ Manage & support the school website technology infrastructure & platform
  • ­ Maintain security and privacy of the information systems, communication lines and equipment

Risk Management

  • Develop, review, and certify all back-up and disaster recovery procedures and plans

Collaborative Environment

  • ­Collaborate with faculty and staff to work towards strategic goals that can be addressed by instructional technology and innovative solutions
  • ­ Work with the Program Office & Division Heads to provide technology support to faculty & students
  • ­ Develop, coordinate and assess training programs on new and updated systems, procedures and applications
  • ­ Collaborate with school administration to identify and solicit external funding sources for academic technology initiatives

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in educational technology, computer science, information technology or related field or Bachelor’s degree with 1o years of IT management experience 
  • Minimum of five years progressive experience in information or instructional technology with a proven ability to successfully lead and direct a team. Experience in a school environment preferred
  • Platform Knowledge – Veracross, Altitude Learning, and similar academic programs as well as Google Works
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with a strong customer service focus, user-centered attitude and a desire to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with an ability to effectively communicate technical information to all stakeholders of the school
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven ability to create result-oriented action plan
  • High energy, self-starter with ability to successfully prioritize and multi-task in an atmosphere in which time sensitive deadlines are the norm, as are interruptions
