Description

As a part of the Morgridge Research Computing Group, the Student Web Developer will help manage the user-facing presence (design, layout, UI, and functionality) of web pages for a range of projects, including the Partnership to Advance Throughput Computing, the OSG Consortium, and HTCondor. They will use web frameworks, design tools, and best practices to help design, develop and maintain websites; these websites promote various scientific projects and hosted events. While the primary focus will be “frontend” work (including basic graphical design), the Student Web Developer will have some responsibility for “backend” work where opportunity and interest allow.

The position is in-person for 10-20 hours per week as mutually agreed upon. Work hours will be flexible, but mostly between 8am – 5pm, Monday – Friday. The start date for this position is January 2024.

Requirements

• Working with the team to manage the public presence of various projects, including the development of functioning and compelling web pages.
• Optimizing SEO based on performance metrics.
• Working with local and remote project staff to create intuitive, responsive, easy-to-use interfaces.
• Providing support for in-line and stand-alone architectural and user documentation to ensure developed solutions are extensible, supportable and usable by others.
• Providing support in the development of new websites and services as our needs grow. Developing web landing pages or email templates for newsletters, event promotions, or other marketing.

Qualifications:

• Candidate must be an area college student.
• Experience with HTML, JavaScript, and modern JavaScript frameworks for the frontend and Python for the backend is desirable.
• Experience working with static site generators such as Jekyll is desirable.
• Experience working with Adobe Suite products such as Adobe Illustrator is desirable.
• Experience working with version control systems (git) is desirable.
• Good communication skills are a requirement.
• Ability to work with others in a focused research setting is a requirement.
