We’re a mid-sized facility with a hardwood face veneer division and a hardwood plywood division, located in beautiful northern Michigan and with a hardwood specialty plywood division, located in Wisconsin. We are a growing company with expansion of our plywood manufacturing facility in Michigan to begin this fall of 2022.

We’re seeking a detail oriented full-time Process Engineer to join our fast-paced, highly motivated, growing team. You'll play an integral role by being responsible to provide engineering support to Manthei Wood Product's production value stream operations including Supply Chain, Manufacturing, and Maintenance at both the main facility and remote locations. The Process Engineer is also responsible for the environmental health and safety processes and program's implementation and enforcement.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Build and oversee the design and production of the Company’s processes
  • Regularly meet with Production Managers to determine what their current processes consist of and collaborate with them to make adjustments accordingly
  • Provide Production Managers with operating instructions and process documents with instructions and details listed
  • Perform risk assessments to determine what kind of improvements could be made to keep the facilities running smoothly, efficiently and safely
  • Review safety and quality standards to ensure the facilities are properly meeting these guidelines 
  • Practice safe working techniques and reinforce the safety policies, guidelines, and procedures as set out by the Company
  • Provide daily guidance and direction in EHS programs at all levels to ensure a common and effective approach
  • Responsible for assisting in the identification of possible losses; evaluating the risk in such loss exposure; developing and implementing a plan to correct or prevent a loss and audit the plan to ensure its effectiveness
  • Maintain and update as needed Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for all safe work practices and equipment and utilize them in the day-to-day training
  • Provide advice, assist, and audit line management to ensure that effective EHS is implemented and working. Perform and contribute to any training plans by conducting employee orientations, emergency response training, and coordination of other safety programs for the operation, such as Lock-Out Tag-Out.
  • Ensure inspections by regulatory agencies are coordinated and deficiencies minimized and corrected
  • Perform and maintain all environmental testing and regulatory activities in compliance with federal, state, and local laws
  • Review accidents and incidents which occur in the area of responsibility and conduct field audits, reporting and managing the corrective actions
  • Other duties and projects as determined by production and overall company business needs

Skills Needed

  • Analytical skills for troubleshooting designs not working as planned, asking the right questions and finding answers that work
  • Ingenuity for using the broad concepts of engineering and applying them to address specific production problems
  • Interpersonal skills in developing positive working relationships with other employees working with the production and safety processes
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities to create and present reports
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Able to speak effectively before groups of vendors or team members of the company
  • Able to persuade and motivate leaders and team members to a safety first culture

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from four-year college or technical school
  • Five to seven years’ related experience and/or training
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Proficient in company's computer software systems (Netsuite, Microsoft, and Google Drive) preferred
  • LEAN manufacturing background and experience preferred
