The Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant is Hiring a Director of Life Enrichment Near Ellicott, MD

Lutheran Village at Miller's Grant currently has an opening for a Director of Life Enrichment. The primary purpose of the Director of Life Enrichment is to provide an ongoing enrichment program designed to meet, in accordance with the comprehensive assessment, the individual interests and the physical, mental, and psychosocial well-being of each resident at our Continuing Care Retirement Community.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Knowledge of laws, regulations and guidelines pertaining to health care and assisted living settings.
  • Work with other departments (Nursing, Rehabilitation Services, Dining Services, Social Work, Facilities Management, Chaplains, etc.) to provide and maintain a safe and enriching environment that comprehensively meets the psychosocial, physical and emotional needs of residents utilizing a resident centered approach.
  • Plan and coordinate enrichment programs appropriate to the needs of the residents (e.g. social programs, indoor and outdoor activities, community outings, etc.) daily including evenings and weekends.
  • Prepare a monthly calendar of events for the health care residents with large typefaces-post in rooms and common areas.
  • Coordinate the enrichment program with other services in the facility.
  • Recruit, train, and supervise the Resident Enrichment Coordinator and volunteers
  • Complete MDS documentation and progress notes in a timely fashion. Assess all residents needs and develop resident activity goals for their care plans
  • Encourage resident participation in structured programs and document outcomes
  • Obtain necessary equipment & supplies and provide for their accessibility through an organized storage area.
  • Participate with the Director in developing a budget.
  • Foster family and community support of the enrichment program through newsletters, family & resident events, etc.
  • Contribute to facility efforts to maintain and/or improve quality of care and good customer service by participating in Care Plan meetings, Service Plan meetings and serving as a member of the Quality Assurance Committee
  • Develop and maintain written departmental policies, procedures & manuals related to activity program and resident enrichment

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified Dementia Practitioners preferred
  • Be a qualified Activity Director or Recreation Therapist who is:
  • Licensed or registered either nationally of by the State of Maryland; and Eligible for certification as an Activity Director
  • OR as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist by a recognized accrediting body on or after October 1, 1990
  • OR be a qualified Occupational Therapist or Occupational Therapy Assistant
  • OR successfully completed a training course approved by the State of Maryland
  • OR possess two years’ experience in a social or activities program within the last five years, one of which was full-time in a resident activities program servicing senior citizens in a health care setting.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to work with and interact effectively with all individuals within the organization, including coworkers, residents, family members, visitors, government representatives, and the general public.
  • Will not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of other individuals in the workplace.

Before starting work, new team members must be fully vaccinated and up to date with the CDC’s COVID vaccine schedule
