POSITION SUMMARY: Incumbent provides American Sign Language interpreting in the community that include medical, educational, business, and government settings primarily in northeast Indiana. EXPECTED RESULTS: The efforts of this position are as follows: 1. 98% of people who are Deaf, hard-of-hearing, and/or use sign language and receive interpreting services will report that the services resulted in effective communication, 2. 98% of customers who purchase interpreting services will report that the services resulted in effective communication, 3. Meet the required minimum third party billing hours per year.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. Service Delivery * Provide sign language interpreting services in the service area that primarily includes northeast Indiana and northwest Ohio. * Provide emergency pager/on-call services one week per month with additional compensation. Public Relations/Marketing No primary responsibilities in this area but may include social media and video support. Administrative and Clerical * Submit accurate and complete assignment reports that are consistent with information contained in the DeafLink Interpreter Handbook. * Submit accurate and complete forms that are consistent with information contained The League’s policies and procedures. * Compliant with needs of business as well as entities that provide credentials for interpreting in the DeafLink service area. 2 Financial * Meet the required minimum third party billing hours per year. Planning No primary responsibilities in this area Personnel No responsibilities in this area.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or equivalent required. Three consistent years paid experience as a sign language interpreter preferred. Extensive knowledge of the Deaf culture preferred. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to provide high quality interpretation between ASL and spoken English for extended periods of time. Ability to communicate with business customers. Ability to read and interpret written documents, such as professional publications, policies, procedure manuals, and business letters. Ability to write routine reports and complete basic forms.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: National Association of the Deaf (NAD) level IV/V; or Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) certification; and hold an Indiana Interpreter Certificate (IIC), or have the skills and education needed to obtain the IIC.
