The Hun School of Princeton is Hiring a Weekend Custodian, part-time Near Princeton, NJ

The Facilities Department at The Hun School of Princeton has an opening for a part-time Weekend Custodian. Must have the ability to work occasional holidays. Under general supervision, custodians provide a clean, sanitized, orderly, and safe environment. It is essential that the candidate must be friendly, professional, and customer service oriented.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Must be able to follow written instructions with limited supervision;
  • Cleaning tasks such as sweeping, mopping, wiping, dusting and scrubbing in multiple settings such as residential areas, restrooms, entryways and common areas;
  • Perform tasks in cleaning, sanitizing, polishing walls, floors, fixtures and loose equipment throughout the School using established practices and procedures;
  • Use and maintain assigned power equipment and hand tools: buffers, auto scrubbers, extractors, high pressure washers, high speed buffers and vacuums, brooms, mops, and squeegees for the cleaning and general maintenance of floors, walls, carpets, furniture, etc.;
  • Implement setup and takedown for a wide variety of campus and community events, some of which will occur on weekends. These activities require lifting, carrying and placement of desks, chairs and other various types of furnishings;
  • Lock and unlock buildings: secure buildings when facilities are not in use checking for unlocked doors and windows, report any unauthorized occupants, turn off lights, and other utilities;
  • Strip, clean, buff and apply floor sealer and floor finish to hard surface floors, vacuum and shampoo carpets;
  • Wash accessible interior and exterior windows;
  • Expected to use cleaning chemicals as directed and in accordance with all safety standards;
  • Reports and responds to emergency calls for custodial assistance;
  • Perform tasks which are supportive in nature to the essential functions of the job, which may be altered or redesigned as necessary.

Physical Demands:

Not all buildings on campus have elevators. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily with or without reasonable accommodations.

  • Standing for long periods as well as stooping, squatting, lifting, carrying, pushing, and climbing;
  • Ability to bend and lift between 5 and 25 lbs. out of receptacles, carry bags to dumpster, lift 5' or higher to place in dumpster;
  • Driving a truck, climbing in and out of vehicle (valid drivers' license is required);
  • Emptying mop bucket, weight approx. 10-15 lbs. into service sink;
  • Ability to lift and carry 20 lb. vacuum up and down a flight of stairs;
  • Use of floor waxing/polishing machinery (buffing machine);
  • Reaching to wipe glass and white boards above head and working in a side-to-side motion.

The ideal candidate will possesses the following qualifications:

  • Ability to perform a wide variety of custodial and maintenance duties;
  • Experience using power equipment such as, but not limited to, floor waxing machines, pressure washers, carpet extractors;
  • Be able to clearly communicate and understand directions;
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills;
  • Plan and complete job duties with minimal supervisory direction, including utilization of appropriate judgment;
  • Must possess good social skills and ability to interact and work with a diverse group that makes up the Hun School community including co-workers, staff, faculty, students, alumni and parents;
  • Candidates must be fingerprinted and pass a State of New Jersey criminal background check.
