The Home Depot is Hiring an Engineering Technician Near Atlanta, GA

Position Purpose:
The engineering technician is responsible for assuring the integrity of The Home Depot direct import and private branded products. Candidates will represent the Product Engineering group through participation on project teams and will demonstrate, through testing, that new products for The Home Depot meet all necessary requirements including industry standards and The Home Depot performance and quality requirements. The Technician is responsible for executing the testing and reviewing the results, supporting Test Engineers in determining the testing applicable for a product and developing appropriate work instructions, tests, and test equipment. The Technician provides clear and unbiased documentation of product performance and failure, supporting root cause analysis of any failures to drive product improvements and/or revised testing.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities & Key Accountabilities:
  • 35% Execute the testing of products. This will include, but not be limited to, tests for: functional safety, mechanical operation, environmental conditions, reliability, performance, failure modes, and usability.
  • 15% Create new, or modify existing testing plans to ensure compliance to regulatory, industry standard and internal requirements. Provide expertise regarding test methods, techniques, and tools in order to develop testing procedures appropriate for product manufacturing.
  • 20% Ensure all POPT protocols and reports are compliant to THD requirements. Ensure that POPT and reporting activities are completed on time as per schedule.
  • 10% Review and approve test reports.
  • 10% Evaluate test failures, determine root causes, and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
  • 10% Demonstrate customer focus, cross-functional collaboration and teamwork skills, continuous improvement, and sound judgment.
Nature and Scope:
  • Position reports to Manager, Product Engineering
  • This position has no direct reports
Environmental Job Requirements:
Environment:
  • Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Travel:
  • Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.
Standard Minimum Qualifications:
  • Must be eighteen years of age or older.
  • Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.
Education Required:
  • The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a trade school degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.
Years of Relevant Work Experience:
  • 2 years
Physical Requirements:
  • Most of the time is spent sitting or standing in the same location or there may be a need to stoop regularly or move/lift light material or equipment (typically less than 8 pounds).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Associates degree in mechanical or electrical engineering or equivalent post-secondary training in engineering
  • Experience analyzing product requirements and developing test plans and test procedures to verify those requirements
  • Experience working with Torsion, Tensile, Compression, Environmental, Material, and Durability testing equipment.
  • Experience with programming software such as Labview, MATLAB, Arduino, Python, etc.
  • Experience with fabrication of metal or machinist work.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies:

  • Knowledge of statistical analysis techniques for test data
  • Proficiency in preparing formal technical reports
  • Experience participating on cross-functional project teams
  • Possess excellent written, listening, and verbal communication skills
  • Experience handling multiple concurrent project assignments
  • Experience with PC software including Microsoft Excel and Word
