Description

We have an exciting opportunity for the Director of Developmental Disabilities services, responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of IDD programs. Regular working hours are Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The Director, when necessary, shall work flexible hours including but not limited to nights, weekends, and / or holidays as needed to accommodate the needs of consumers and the programs.

Specific Responsibilities include:

1. Direct the day-to-day operations of the department, including ensuring high-quality services to consumers are delivered in a timely manner that meets their individual needs.

2. Managing staff and department within span of control, including but not limited to: making recommendations with particular weight as to the interviewing, selecting, hiring and termination of staff; setting and adjusting hours of work; on-boarding and training staff work performance; handling of staff complaints and grievances; and disciplining employees.

3. Responsible for participating in monthly Total Quality Management Committee meeting, actively implement the agency’s quality improvement initiatives within their assigned areas, monitor the implementation and adherence to the established quality improvement initiatives, activities and policies.

4. Ensure all agency, contractual, regulatory, government and accreditation standards are met.

5. Plan, propose for approval and implement new approved programs and/or services within the department (e.g. strategic planning, writing business plans and grant proposals, developing budgets, developing procedures).

6. Engage in continuous quality improvement to ensure activities carried out by the department are as efficient and effective as possible, which includes collaborating with other departments (e.g. other programs, Quality Improvement, Finance, Human Resources).

7. Participate in research and/or program evaluation in a manner that follows ethical standards as well as agency and government guidelines.

8. Coordinate ongoing in-service education programs for staff, developed and maintained based on new developments in the field and results of agency audits of performance. In-service training should address the opportunities for improvement as identified in performance monitoring and evaluation.

9. Provide evidence of at least 25 hours per year of in-service training and/or continuing education related to the provision of services for their applied population

10. Perform other duties as directed or as necessary.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a human service related field, and possess a current license in the State of Michigan as a social worker (LMSW), counselor (LPC) or psychologist (LLP or LP). Must also meet the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services requirements for Qualified Intellectual Disability Professional (QIDP). 
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience supervising or directing a program or department serving individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and/or autism spectrum disorders and their families is required. 
  • Must possess the organizational skills necessary to develop, implement and maintain effective operational procedures and practices. Detailed knowledge of and experience overseeing a successful program model within a managed care environment is also preferred. A proven record of new program development from business planning to implementation is also preferred. 
  • Additional requirements include: a nonjudgmental approach that reflects cultural competency and sensitivity to the unique needs of the diverse programs and populations our agency serves.
