The Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau is Hiring a Communications Manager Near Boston, MA

Description

Greater Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau (GBCVB) is seeking a dynamic Communications Manager to support and manage a full complement of public relations, media and communications initiatives. This is an exciting opportunity to collaborate on a vision for a highly visible organization and support and enhance the promotion of the world-renowned cities of Boston, Cambridge, and surrounding areas. 

The individual in this role will report to the Vice President of Strategic Communications while working closely with the Marketing Director, Marketing Manager and Social Media Specialist. They will be a critical player in developing a robust communications program to increase brand awareness of the Greater Boston area in all key target markets including leisure, meetings, sports, international and local. Specific responsibilities include: 

  • In concert with the VP of Strategic Communications, manage the digital Press Room on bostonusa.com, including image gallery, reports, What’s New, Boston in the News, visitation data, and Press Releases.
  • Collaborate in writing and disseminating press releases, posting them to the Press Room, and partnering to execute media events.
  • In partnership with the Marketing team, work with research and data vendors to understand consumer trends, demographical data, and track attribution, while tying these insights to the overarching communications plan for the organization. 
  • Oversee all media inquiries and asks, including the evaluation of proposed press trips and media visits, the development of press trip itineraries, and the requisite follow up to ensure deliverables. Manage the mediarelations@bostonusa.com email address.
  • Exhibit the ability to interface with local media and field media inquiries related to Greater Boston and the travel economy.
  • Assist the Marketing team with content such as event listings, blogs, Landing Pages, microsites, e-blasts and newsletters.
  • Create a communications strategy for all sales and marketing campaigns deployed by the GBCVB, as well as special events and activations organized by the GBCVB.
  • Work with Marketing Manager and Social Media Specialist to assist with influencer campaigns and social media strategies.
  • Work with the Executive team and Marketing team to develop and deploy effective electronic communications to all key audiences including consumers, meeting planners and stakeholders.
  • In conjunction with the full Marketing team, select and manage outside vendors related to digital, video, design, etc. 

Position Details:

  • Full-time, exempt position
  • Hybrid work schedule – 3 days in office / 2 days remote; hybrid schedule is subject to change in the future.
  • Position could require occasional evening work.
  • COVID-19 considerations: All staff are required to submit proof of having received a COVID immunization.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in communications and public relations.
  • Prior experience in brand development and destination marketing, hospitality and/or tourism sector strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience in the management of media relations.
  • Ability to analyze research in establishing and key performance indicators and overarching goals, and connecting these metrics to communications strategy. 
  • Strong analytical ability and experience applying metrics to media relations development and the tracking of return on investment. 
  • Exceptional written and verbal communications skills to effectively inform and engage internal and external audiences. 
  • Desire to grow in the position by keeping abreast of key trends and engaging in professional development opportunities where appropriate.
