The Davis Community is Hiring a Recreation Director (AL) Near Wilmington, NC

Description

BASIC PURPOSE:

The Recreation Director is responsible for developing and promoting a varied scope of activities. Activities include appropriate and therapeutic opportunities for socialization across the religious and ethnic backgrounds of the residents. All responsibilities will be conducted in a manner that is consistent with the assisted living philosophy.

MAJOR WORK ACTIVITIES:

  1. Develops, implements and coordinates resident-centered programs.
  2. Ensures resident-centered programs demonstrate an appreciation of the heritage, values and wisdom of the residents and an understanding of the aging process.
  3. Develop, direct and coordinate services that provide recreation and therapeutic activities to include parties, cultural activities, special entertainment, day trips, special events, and activities in their rooms where indicated.
  4. Develops volunteer program, enlists their support and coordinates their efforts. Provides training and supervision of volunteers. Maintains all required records for volunteers.
  5. Develop annual budget recommendations and requirements. Maintains and operates within budget.
  6. Implement controls costs, purchases and inventory supplies and equipment. Inspects recreation equipment to determine repair, maintenance needs and cleanliness.
  7. Maintains accurate documentation of residents’ participation and response to programs.
  8. Ensures effective communication of information and material regarding events and activities.
  9. Coordinates activity transportation needs of the community; serves as back up driver of the community vehicle.
  10. Coordinates activities with other departments.
  11. Assists in implementing facility’s marketing plan.
  12. Supervise and evaluate the work performance of activity assistance through timely and ongoing performance reviews, developing performance improvement plans when indicated and documenting progressive disciplinary actions taken.
  13. Review and assist with development or revision of policies as needed
  14. Support management/administration decisions through periods of change or stress.
  15. Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to evaluate and appropriately respond to verbal and nonverbal communication from resident’s diverse stages of development, i.e. adults and geriatrics.
  • Works in a well-lighted office area and/or neighborhood.
  • Physical exertion required at least 60% of the time. Physical exertion is described as standing,
  • stooping, kneeling and bending. Intermittent lifting, pushing and carrying objects weighing
  • between 80 to 100 pounds. Must be able to lift at least 25 pounds.
  • Low exposure to infectious disease.
  • May be subject to noisy, hot or cold, humid and busy environment.
  • Exposure to some noise and stress.
  • Ability to work and communicate with people.
  • In an emergency, is expected to respond and includes the possibility of evacuation of residents.
  • Utilize the following equipment including but not limited to telephone, computer & printer, copier, fax, wheelchair, bus lift, fire extinguisher, popcorn machine, kitchen appliances and electronic devices.
  • Exposure to peculiarities in behavior and reactions of the aged, including combative residents.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle, including a large van.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Must possess a high school diploma or GED. Degree in Health and

Human Services preferred.

Licensure/Certification: Must complete within 9 months of employment the 48-hour Activity Director course.

Experience: At least two years of experience in geriatrics, recreation, or social

administration and experience with dementia care. Therapeutic

recreation, certified activity director, or related field.
