The Center for Action & Contemplation is Hiring a Development Manager Near Albuquerque, NM

The Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC) exists to awaken a more loving world through the teaching and practice of the Christian contemplative tradition. We are pioneering a unique and values-aligned approach to fundraising and financial sustainability that meets the highest standards of transparency, relationality, and solidarity.

Our vision for our values-aligned approach to fundraising began in 2020 when we started exploring broader questions about money and how it might be possible to utilize our financial resources and financial transactions as opportunities to support spiritual transformation. When we acknowledge that our relationship with money often acts as a mirror for our inner journey, we asked a series of questions about how we can relate to it in ways that support the growth of CAC and our broader donor community.

In response to these questions, CAC has established a comprehensive, board approved Financial Philosophy which captures Fr. Richard’s theological themes around money, the CAC’s key financial principles (listed below) and operational implications around how we budget, spend, generate, and invest our financial resources.

CAC’s Key Financial Principles

  1. We operate from a clear definition of “enough”
  2. We practice transparency.
  3. We seek for money to never be the barrier to participation.
  4. We understand exchanges of money as vehicles for advancing our mission and message.
  5. We commit to spend simply, equitably, and sustainably.
  6. We lead with giving and generosity

As we work to operationalize this vision, we are looking for a Development Manager to design and implement a digital system of at-scale donor cultivation and stewardship that works in alignment with these principles. In this new role, you will lead efforts to personalize the donor experience, so people feel valued and connected to the impact of our work, regardless of their giving capacity. Reporting to and supported by the Development Director, your role will be critical in expanding the work of the CAC through both internal project management and external communication with donors.

CAC has a remarkably broad and stable base of recurring and individual donors. A key element of this role will be working with the development director to design, build and manage a system to appropriately engage and appreciate these donors.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop and manage an ongoing process to provide at-scale donor stewardship for donors at different giving levels, ensuring that appreciation is given appropriately.
  • Lead project management for annual fundraising calendar including podcast appeals, Daily Meditations appeals, and year-end appeals.
  • Manage assets including donation webpages and confirmation emails to reflect CAC’s ongoing financial and fundraising philosophy.
  • Manage the ongoing processes of tax receipts, year-end giving summaries, functional donor communications, and donor reporting requirements.
  • Support major fundraising campaigns and the recurring donation management and retention process with oversight from the Development Director.
  • Partner with Development Director to project manage and develop CAC’s online Annual Report.

Why You’re Right for the Job

  • You’re a skilled project manager who can create internal buy-in from key stakeholders and keep multiple projects on track simultaneously.
  • You enjoy tackling new challenges and demonstrate the ownership and resilience to drive projects through to completion.
  • You have a spirit of hospitality that ensures that donors are cared for in keeping with CAC’s financial philosophy.
  • You care deeply about connecting donors to impact in a way that is mutually generative instead of transactional.
  • You have experience building and/or iterating upon systems to care for a large base of donors in thoughtful, creative, and intentional ways.
  • You have excellent written and verbal skills, enabling you to represent CAC with professionalism when communicating with donors.
  • You have a positive and comfortable relationship with money in which you understand its importance for fueling the work and the mission of an organization.
  • You have a growth mindset and are excited at the opportunity to be both a contributor and learner in a complex organization with a unique fundraising philosophy based on generosity and stewardship of donors.
  • You are interested in contemplative spirituality and/or personal transformation and are excited to learn about and support CAC’s mission, content, and programs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 4 years of experience operating in a service, hospitality, project management or development role.
  • Experience with Salesforce and Asana preferred.
  • Previous fundraising, business development and/or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • You have an interest in personal growth and contemplative spirituality.
  • Understanding of CAC’s spiritual lineage and teaching preferred.
