The Broad Institute, Inc. is Hiring a Research Associate I Near Cambridge, MA

Job Description The Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT is looking for an exceptional candidate for a unique Research Associate position. This position affords the exciting opportunity to be part of a rapidly growing research effort at the Broad Institute aiming to create new model systems of cancer and other diseases directly from patient samples. This individual will be responsible for working with a team in a collaborative effort between the Broad Institute and partner hospitals to supplement personalized genomic sequencing via the creation of personalized cell line models at scale. This effort involves developing and deploying protocols for cell line generation using new CCLF developed breakthrough technologies. Since the paucity of cell line models has severely blunted research in cancer as well as other human genetic diseases, this work has potential to catalyze new directions in biomedical research with potential for global impact. The successful candidate will develop new cell line models across multiple diseases and genetic/ethnicity backgrounds, beginning with primary tumor samples. Working with others, he/she will systematically test, refine and scale up emerging approaches for cell line generation. He/she will be part of a team that evaluates new technologies and approaches that have potential to improve efficiencies of cell line generation with an ultimate goal of being able to rapidly and efficiently create models from tissue derived from any patient. The successful candidate is expected to work largely independently after training but will be closely mentored by the patient model derivation team scientist and manager. The Broad Institute provides a vibrant research environment with close links to top academic institutions across the Boston Area and provides the potential for your contributions to be used and recognized worldwide. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES Works with a team in a new cell line creation initiative aiming to build collections of new cell line models in neglected areas with potential to accelerate the identification of effective therapies for individual patients. Performs numerous cell culture and molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, RT-PCR, ELISA, Flow cytometry, and cell viability assessment. The RA II position will be expected to learn and carry out large-scale vulnerability screenings, such as genome-level CRISPR screens and/or small molecular screens. Maintain and propagate established cell lines, cryopreserving viable stocks and cell pellets throughout established workflow.
