Position Description

The Director of Alumni Relations reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and is responsible for the creation, planning and implementation of programs to increase alumni engagement and support of Branson. The Director of Alumni Relations is the primary contact for over 3,000 alumni, and she/he must represent the school in a professional and knowledgeable manner, with the ability to both relate to and care for a diverse constituency of men and women with varied tenures and experiences at Branson. The Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for all alumni fundraising and for the creation and implementation of all alumni events both in and outside of the school.

Work Requirements

  • Strategic Planning
    • Create, implement, and evaluate an annual plan that promotes alumni engagement, connection, and philanthropic support through innovative programming and thoughtful event, communication, and fundraising strategies.
    • Evaluate and reimagine programmatic aspects of the Alumni Relations program routinely by gathering and analyzing feedback and data and analyzing trends.
    • Maintain and update an Alumni Relations dashboard to report results to Advancement and Board on a quarterly basis.
  • Engagement
    • Establish and build meaningful relationships with a diverse, wide range of alumni, locally, regionally, and nationally. Maintain direct contact with alumni via phone calls, electronic meetings, visits, and correspondence. 
    • Expand the alumni volunteer program by regularly identifying and recruiting new volunteers, including but not necessarily limited to Class Representatives. 
    • Manage Class Representative Program
      • Set agendas and host quarterly meetings for Class Representatives. 
      • Train and coordinate class representatives to work on various alumni projects including but not limited to reunion planning, Day of Giving, and local/regional events.
    • Review and revise events annually to ensure that they are achieving objectives, increasing alumni involvement and awareness, and contributing to the overall goals of the development program. Events may include but are not limited to:
      • Local and regional gatherings
      • Events bringing faculty and alumni together
      • Reunion Weekend
      • Programs with current students; including induction into the Alumni Association for seniors.
    • Plan and execute all alumni events.
    • Collaborate with the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to develop programming for Branson Alumni affinity groups.
  • Fundraising
    • Design, plan, coordinate, and implement the alumni giving to the Alumni Scholarship Endowment, including leadership giving. Includes the drafting of solicitations, acknowledgments, and other correspondence, working closely with the Chief Advancement Officer and the Director of the Annual Fund.
    • Actively identify and qualify alumni prospects for gifts at all levels.
    • Maintain a portfolio of alumni prospects for the capital campaign.
    • Plan, execute and manage the annual Day of Giving.
  • Grow programs to engage Parents of Alumni and coordinate annual fundraising from that group.

Communications

  • Develop content and format for the quarterly alumni newsletter
  • Create invitations and event marketing plans for all alumni events
  • Support Director of Marketing and Communications in the maintenance of the alumni section of Branson website.
  • Coordinate the Class Notes section of Branson Magazine. Collaborate with the Director of Marketing and Communications to identify and produce alumni content for the magazine.
  • Ensure accurate and complete alumni records in Raiser’s Edge. Collaborate with Advancement Database Manager to capture contact, biographical and career information of alumni via surveys, projects, correspondence, postal returns, etc. Save all pertinent email correspondence and visit notes to alumni records.
  • Keep colleagues and the immediate Branson community apprised of alumni news and events via timely updates through a variety of media and social media.
  • Proactively identify on-campus alumni engagement opportunities during the school year and match alumni appropriately with faculty requests (speakers, class visits, resources, etc.)
  • Manage other tasks as needed that support overarching objectives of the position
  • Along with other members of the Advancement Office, provide support for department and school initiatives and events

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Five or more years of alumni or development office experience, or experience in a related industry
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office suite and Google online platform; experience with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge software a plus
  • Proven capacity to build rapport across diverse stakeholder groups
  • Demonstrated capacity to operate in fast paced, varied work environment that includes high volume responsibility and atypical or unpredictable hours and tasks
  • Outstanding organizational, written, oral, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic, high level of integrity, and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion and tact
  • Ability to strategize, implement and build diverse constituency programs and activities, along with a talent for leading and motivating volunteers
  • Alumni status is a plus but not a requirement
  • The desire to be involved in all aspects of life at an independent school
