Texas Tech University is Hiring an IT Support Technician II Near Lubbock, TX

The IT Support Technician II's scope includes providing technical support and assistance to departments, faculty, staff, and students with the use of basic hardware and some software support and maintenance. This position will also specialize in hardware and software relevant to the department or unit. Adherence to robust safety practices and compliance with all applicable health and safety regulations are responsibilities of all employees.Essential Job Functions
  • With some supervision by management and/or project leads:
  • Provides support and maintenance for college technology items, including but not limited to: desktop computers, laptop computers, printers, displays, media production and presentation equipment, software, account management
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems with technology items, interfacing with central technology support areas. Performs technical duties necessary for department or unit business operations.
  • Specializes in hardware and software relevant to the department or unit.
  • Adheres to all appropriate Institutional policies (including IT OPs) and other relevant internal departmental policies.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Intermediate-level analytical skills including process description, logic, problem diagnostics, and problem-solving.
  • Intermediate-level competency in fundamental and advanced hardware and software support through education or experience.
  • Ability to prioritize activities to use time efficiently and stay on task.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • The attributes required to perform the job that are generally demonstrated through qualifying service, education, or training.
  • Ability to exercise judgment on organizational policies and activities; plan and organize effectively, prioritize goals, use time effectively; communicate effectively (orally & writing); maintain work relationships; intermediate level analytical skills, intermediate technology hardware & software competency; fundamental and advanced hardware & software support through education and experience; ability to train and educate users regarding technology and software; current working knowledge of multimedia presentations; multimedia equipment, etc.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
  • Provide direct support for college personnel use of technology items and processes including, but not limited to, desktop and laptop computers and related peripherals, classroom AV, printers, technology, software licensing, and related devices and software in accordance with college and university policies and practices. (30%)
  • Performs proactive maintenance to apply updates and other maintenance required for optimum functionality of devices, software, and facilities (20%)
  • Work with college Technology Support Services staff to document work performed by the department in order to generate a monthly summary of tasks performed and time spent to the Director of Technology Support Services and college administration (15%)
  • Maintain and further develop advanced knowledge of specialty software used in the College and University. To include, but not limited to, Adobe Creative Suite, SPSS, Microsoft Office Suite, KACE, Asset Panda, Track-IT, and others (15%)
  • Assists Technology Support Services team with maintaining accurate documentation of college technology inventory assets and assist equipment manager and director with annual inventory audit (10%)
  • Provide support and maintenance for the CoMC server environment, including management of server hardware as well as digital management of storage, databases, security, and applications on CoMC servers (5%)
  • Assists with supervision and training of student assistant technicians (5%)
Bachelor's degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area plus one (1) year related full-time paid experience OR a combination of related education and/or experience. Applicants for this Security Sensitive Level II position will be subject to a criminal background check and must pass a drug and alcohol test after a conditional offer of employment has been extended, but before employment can be confirmed.
