The Credit Manager reports to the Senior Credit Officer and works closely with Credit Analysts, Portfolio Managers, and Relationship Managers, and is responsible for underwriting commercial loans, monitoring the bank’s existing loan portfolio, preparing monthly reports for senior management and the board of directors, training new Credit Analysts and interns, and ensuring compliance with all bank policies and procedures, as well as all applicable state and federal banking regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with credit staff to ensure consistent application of credit policy and underwriting standards.
  • Recommends changes in the credit policy to senior management.
  • Provides ongoing training for the credit staff.
  • Maintains portfolio tracking, including exception tracking, covenant tracking, and relationship reviews.
  • Assesses risk ratings of loans at approval and on an ongoing basis.
  • Manages the bank’s appraisal review process.
  • Engages with auditors and examiners to fulfill audit and regulatory requests.
  • Assists Senior Credit Officer with monthly board reporting.
  • Assists Senior Credit Officer with the monthly ALLL calculation.
  • Assists Senior Credit Officer in the bank’s preparation for CECL.
  • Underwrites commercial and consumer loans as needed.
  • Attends client or prospective client meetings as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, finance or a similar field and experience underwriting commercial loans.
  • 3 years of credit experience in banking.
  • Completion of a formal credit training program.
  • Passionate about creating a strong credit culture and developing people.
  • Strong personal motivation and attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and work in a deadline driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proven work experience as a credit manager or similar role is a plus. Strong experience in Commercial Real Estate and workouts is desirable.
