Job TitleTechnician I Agency Texas A&M University Health Science Center Department Neuroscience & Experimental Therapeutics Proposed Minimum SalaryCommensurate Job LocationBryan, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description Glimpse of the Job The individual is responsible for general laboratory duties, including planning and supervising technical operations, conducting experiments, and assisting in controlled environment experiments. Specifically in MRI imaging, they provide technical support by performing scans, assisting in research procedures, and updating imaging protocols. The role also involves data analysis, quality checks, and maintenance of imaging equipment. Additionally, the person schedules MRI scans, orders scientific supplies, and performs other assigned duties. Ingenuity and improvisation may be required for complex chemical and physical analyses within standard procedures. Who we are The Department of Neuroscience and Experimental Therapeutics is one of four basic science departments within the Texas A&M University School of Medicine. Program strengths within the department include brain development, cellular/molecular basis of drug addition, circadian biology, ocular pharmacology and experimental therapeutics, neurobiology of aging, acute brain and spinal cord injury models, and neurodegenerative diseases. The imaging facility is part of a vibrant group of investigators looking at various neurological disorders ranging from epilepsy, traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury, Parkinson’s disease. This is an exceptional opportunity for a candidate to engage in innovative research projects and to embark on new career path Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered Knowledge of laboratory equipment, scientific apparatus, and computer equipment A well-qualified applicant will have a bachelor’s degree in science in veterinary medicine, biomedical engineering, computer science or imaging related field, experience working with small animals and/or rodents, experience performing administrative support in a research laboratory, knowledge of computers and software related to the position, and experience with MRI imaging or a foundation for understanding. The responsibilities include (but not limited to): General Laboratory Duties: Assists with planning and supervising technical operations. Uses computer equipment for controlling equipment and compiling data. Conducts experiments and technical procedures. Carries out research problems. Assists personnel involved in a series of controlled environment or analysis experiments. MRI Imaging: Provide imaging technical support services by performing MRI scans and assisting with research-related procedures. Create or update imaging protocols. Data analysis and Equipment Maintenance: Perform quality checks on data produced. These would be performed in compliance with study protocols, standard operating procedures, and other local and federal requirements. Maintenance and quality control of imaging equipment in accordance with standard operating procedures. Makes complex chemical and physical analyses which, although they follow standard procedures and tests, may require the exercise of some ingenuity and improvisation. Scheduling and Ordering: Scheduling MRI scans with users from research laboratories. Orders scientific supplies and equipment. Performs other related duties as assigned.
