Tesla is Hiring a Sr. Fleet Health Engineer Near Fremont, CA

In the Sr. Fleet Health Engineer role, you will resolve fleet-wide maintenance challenges and ensure that Tesla is meeting its contractual and performance obligations that affect a growing fleet of energy products including solar energy and storage. This role is an integral part of developing processes, tools, and leading technical and commercial discussions on fleet maintenance effectiveness.

The Sr. Fleet Health Engineer's primary role is to leverage the incredible amounts of real-world performance and maintenance data to drive fleet wide improvements by identifying trends and determining effective strategies to improve key fleet health metrics. An ideal candidate has thorough knowledge of Solar PV operations and maintenance activities, spares management and planning, and is naturally motivated to seek out and fix problems in a methodical way.

  • Evaluate maintenance readiness across the fleet and ensure obligations can be met across different contracts and service level agreements
  • Plan and manage spare components for the fleet and guide procurement decisions to meet service targets
  • Collaborate with and assist other teams in developing spares management and equipment remediation processes
  • Assist in proactively determining inverter replacement options for out of warranty and discontinued products
  • Coordinate inverter performance testing with Electrical Engineering and Field Service Teams
  • Collaborate with Sr. Solar Performance Engineer to identify common failures and frequent sources of unavailability. Develop cross team strategies for appropriate resolution.
  • Investigate and explain trends in historical fleet performance and relate them to Service Engineering and Asset Management leadership, with recommendations for fleet actions to drive improvements in service metrics
  • Create reports, presentations, and graphs to show performance, status, problem histories, etc.
  • Work with Energy Analysts and Service Engineering Teams to automate processes and set up the dashboards and tools needed to manage solar assets
  • Maintain end-to-end ownership of service tickets, both at tactical and strategic level. Identify blockers and drive corrective service action to completion
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related work experience
  • Minimum 3-5 years of technical experience in renewables O&M/asset management
  • Minimum 2 years of experience managing a large portfolio of commercial scale PV assets
  • Strong familiarity with PV operations industry standards and best practices, including reactive and preventative maintenance across a wide range or project and product types
  • Ability to quickly grasp LTSA requirements and plan reactive and proactive services accordingly
  • Self-motivated, collaborative individual who can work across teams
  • Comprehensive understanding of Engineering Drawings: Electrical, Instrumentation & Control used in the Residential and Commercial Solar markets
  • Possess strong planning, scheduling, and project management skills with the ability to plan and work independently
  • Desired working knowledge of power generation equipment, and applicable SCADA, DAS, and HMI systems
  • Maintains a working knowledge of the applicable National Electric and Electrical safety code(s) (NEC, NFPA70E, NESC, OSHA)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Pre-existing field service and remote support experience for similar product lines
