TESLA is Hiring a Control System Engineer, HMI (Cell Manufacturing) Near Fremont, CA

The Role

Control Systems Engineer, (HMI Development)

Tesla is seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer for Cell Manufacturing Engineering Development group in Fremont, CA. You will work on cutting-edge technology that will help Tesla scale up our automotive and energy storage products.

Responsibilities

  • Development of scalable server architectures for plant wide high reliability SCADA systems

o Database Architecture

o Server Architecture

o Folder Structure

o User interface / user experience (UI/UX)

  • Specification of high performance design standards for HMI screen development
  • Design UI control module(like status bar, navigation bar…)
  • Generate aesthetically simple HMI screens for complex machinery while providing sufficient feedback for troubleshooting.
  • Participate in Tesla specification and standard creation
  • Development of innovative tools for system analysis and troubleshooting
  • Architect tools for automation of development and deployment of SCADA systems
  • Work closely with PLC development to optimize data exchange and general system usability.
  • Support a team to develop high efficiency alarm rationalization techniques
  • Manage contractors to optimally execute scopes of work
  • Provide on expert on call support for system outages and failover incidents
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities with key stakeholders and engineering groups
  • Participate in the execution of start-up and commissioning activities

Requirements:

  • BS/MS in an Engineering field (Majors in: Control Systems, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, Automation Engineering, etc.)
  • 5 years of experience as a hands-on Controls Engineer or Applications Engineer working on automation and/or electromechanical systems.
  • Advanced proficiency in programming industrial process and manufacturing equipment:

o Human Machine Interface (HMI / GUI - Ignition)

o PLCs (Beckhoff/ Siemens)

  • Advanced proficiency in modern text based programming languages (C#/Java Script/React/WPF/HTML/FluxDB)
  • Configuration of controls networks including:

o Field bus Networks (ProfiNet, , EtherCAT, Safety rated field bus networks)

o Ethernet communications between machine PLCs and database systems(TCP-IP/OPCUA/ADS)

  • Experience transitioning products and processes from concept to high volume production desired
  • Advanced proficiency in database systems (MSSQL, MySQL, Access)
  • Ability to program state machines, data acquisition, and PID control is a plus
  • Proficiency creating detailed process, electrical (EPLAN). Ability to use 3D CAD packages such as with Revit is a plus.
  • Exposure to a wide variety of production machinery, industrial sensors, and equipment (Level, temperature and pressure transducers, current and power meters, etc) is a plus
  • Experience with Vision systems is a plus (Cognex, Keyence) is a plus
  • Experience creating technical specifications for process or manufacturing equipment is a plus
