Job Summary:

Create an incident-free workplace by developing, communicating, and leading all the policies & practices that reflect Tesco Controls’ commitment to its employee health & safety. Partner with all departments to ensure understanding and compliance with policies. Be the leadership team’s representative for HSE and lead Tesco’s Safety Team. Hands on participant in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Essential Functions:

  • Safety Program Development, Deployment, Training & Communication
    • Reduce the number and severity rate of incidents by instituting the right metrics and driving them to industry-leading levels (HazOps, Near Misses, TRR, LTIR, etc)
    • Own and drive continuous improvement of systems that result in the reduction of accidents and ensure regulatory compliance
    • Drive change in our current culture to be preventative vs. reactive
    • Establish training programs for all operation levels – New Hire Orientation, Forklift, First Aid/CPR, AED and Bloodborne Pathogens (BBP), Fall Protection, Lock Out Tag Out (LOTO), Emergency Planning, and more
    • Work with Department Managers on continuous improvement of policies, practices and training
    • Assist with New Hire Safety Orientation for shop, field and office employees
    • Communicate Safety Team initiatives and important & relevant safety news, guidelines and updates via electronic portal
    • Assist with developing, updating and revising Tesco Safety Handbook/Program/IIPP documents
    • Review safety training program to ensure compliance and update trainings as needed
    • Maintain schedule and ensure thoroughness of internal auditing for machine safety, lock-out/tag-out, risk control analysis, job site safety, PPE, etc.
    • Ensure compliance with our required use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
    • Perform ergonomic evaluations and suggest/approve/track equipment ordered
    • Develop and implement vehicle safety measures and tracking with fleet coordinator
  • Accident/Injury Procedures & Reporting
    • Lead investigations for HazOps, near misses, and accidents and ensure solutions are created and communicated
    • Coordinate and participate in Accident/Injury Investigation for all safety related incidents
    • Report and track all workers’ compensation claims, job restrictions/transfers, time away from work, modified duty, and work status reports. Partner with HR as needed for employee communications.
    • Responsible for all OSHA log reporting and compliance
    • Assist with recommendations for employee training or disciplinary action as needed based on incident
  • Other Administrative Functions
    • Schedule and track monthly safety training
    • Review building security camera footage as needed
    • Other duties as assigned

Demonstrated Skills:

  • Must have a proven track record in effectively managing the HSE function in a busy multi-site OEM manufacturing business
  • Must possess a high level of professionalism and strong communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Must have the ability to support multiple initiatives concurrently
  • Must be inquisitive and have a strong sense of situational awareness to identify and mitigate safety risk
  • Must possess a strong work ethic and strong technical/mechanical aptitude
  • Must exercise considerable judgment and discretion involving confidential information.
  • Organization and multi-task skills are key to the success of this position
  • Excellent listening and follow-through skills and ability to create trust at all levels of the organization
  • Group presentation skills are preferred
  • Experience with Lean manufacturing and 6S strongly desired
  • Experience with metal fab, wiring, paint, heat treatment, and electrical system testing desired

Education and Experience:

  • 5 years experience in a safety leadership role at an OEM
  • CSP, ASP or equivalent safety certification
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office 360 skills
  • Bachelors in industrial manufacturing or related field.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing or quality systems preferred

Knowledge:

  • Must have a working knowledge of safety programs and issues, including state and federal OSHA and DoT regulations
  • Must be Microsoft Office & PC proficient and able to self-teach new software and applications
