Now about you…

Our Environmental team is looking for a Mid Level Environmental Compliance Specialist to support a project at Fort Hunter Liggett. The primary duties of the Environmental Compliance Specialist include leading a wide variety of environmental compliance projects as they relate to hazardous material management, hazardous waste management, air quality, storage tank management, Pollution Prevention, and storm water activities. Must have an understanding of federal and state laws, regulations and reporting requirements related to the above topics. Will also be responsible for tasks including, but not limited to: collecting and reviewing data from multiple base locations and military activities; performing audits and inspections of base activities and locations to verify compliance with environmental regulations; updating environmental programmatic plans and documents; and assisting the base Army environmental staff with special projects or requirements. Must be professional and courteous in all interactions. 

Responsibilities include:

  • Meet suspense dates for deliverables
  • Properly prioritize and execute activities and workflow to meet established program goals and objectives
  • Plan and schedule activities to meet mission requirements
  • Proactively address out of compliance regulatory compliance requirements
  • Mentor, provide guidance and train junior personnel
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Operate environmental sampling/monitoring equipment and perform services in a safe manner
  • Meet quality standards specified for the position
  • Be respectful and cognizant of military chain of command, customs and protocol
  • Meet security requirements. This position is at a military installation. Candidate must be able to pass a DoD National Agency Check with Inquiry (NACI) background check conducted by the government, and meet DoD facility entrance requirements.

What are we looking for?

  • BS in Environmental Studies, engineering or related field
  • 8-12 years previous related environmental compliance experience
  • Supervisory or Team Leader experience
  • Proficient in understanding and evaluating compliance with Federal and State regulations, such as the RCRA, CAA, CWA, EPCRA, TSCA, and DoD Environmental Policies and Procedures
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills 
  • Proficient in MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, MS Power Point MS Share Point, and MS Access)
  • Demonstrate reliability, self-motivated, and a strong work ethic, exhibit time management skills, be detail oriented, and perform work accurately in a work in a collaborative environment 
  • Environmental Compliance Auditing and inspections at DoD installations a plus
  • Department of Defense operations familiarity a plus
  • Database manipulation and GIS skills a plus
