JOB DESCRIPTION

JOB TITLE: DIRECTOR OF STUDENT SERVICES & PROGRAMS

DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Superintendent, the Director of Student Services is accountable for outcomes through the planning, implementation and reporting on Student Services for the District. This position will be the district coordinator for various programs including Homeless and
Foster, District English Learner Advisory Committee (DELAC), Expanding Learning Opportunities
Program (ELOP) and Summer School.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Plans, organizes, controls and directs the operations, activities and services of assigned programs and services
● Develops, evaluates, and updates the District’s Extended Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) activities, staffing, budgeting, program development, and grant reporting requirements.
● Act as the District’s Homeless and Foster Youth Liaison, and coordinate with other districts, San

Luis Obispo County Office of Education, and California Department of Education
● Responsible for grant writing and reporting processes for Career Technical Education
● Interprets the Student Services programs, related board policies and related administrative procedures to principals, staff and community
● Coordinates, attends and conducts a variety of meetings and committees; prepares and delivers oral presentations concerning student services programs, services, operations and activities; represents the District at local and regional meetings, events, boards, commissions, councils and conferences, as needed

● Writes state or federal special projects involving Student Services programs and/or services
● Monitor current programs for operational effectiveness and make changes or recommendations for improvement
● Participate in decisions regarding student program placement, goals and objectives
● Serve as a liaison to the parents, school and community in Student Services matters
● Serves as a consultant to site administrators for escalated student behavior issues
● Acts as the on-site administrator at all school sites as needed
● Serve as a resource to school district personnel
● Serve on the Management Team
● Maintain appropriate confidentiality procedures
● Assume other duties as assigned by the Superintendent

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES
● Ability to communicate in writing for the purpose of composing the required reports and other correspondence
● Ability to communicate orally sufficient to express ideas, thoughts and instructions clearly to students, community and staff
● Ability to handle stressful situations involving emotional students, staff and parents
● Ability to manage and prioritize multiple activities
● Ability to collaborate effectively in inter and intra- agency levels
● Ability to work independently, to make sound decisions, and to evaluate the results of those decisions
● Ability to management, organize, and motivate diverse groups of staff
● Knowledge of the general needs and behavior of children

QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:
● Ability to obtain FBI fingerprint clearance
● Valid California Administrative Credential
● Valid California Teaching Credential
● Valid California Driver’s License
● Leadership and administrative experience in the area of site administration and/or Student

Services

Preferred:
● Masters’ Degree or Doctorate Degree
● Minimum of five years of classroom teaching experience
● Bilingual-Spanish

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS of this position are, but not limited to, the following:

● Ability to push, pull and transport instructional and/or presentation materials
● Ability to communicate and listen so others will be able to clearly understand and be heard
● Ability to bend, twist, stoop and reach
● Ability to drive a personal vehicle to conduct business

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS of the position are, but not limited to, the following:

● Ability to organize and coordinate schedules
● Ability to analyze and interpret data
● Problem solving skills
● Provide leadership in developing and implementing district policies, goals and objectives
● Perform duties under stressful situations
