Description:

TemperPack's R&D team is seeking a "full-stack" engineer to catalyze the company's cutting-edge product development efforts. Our Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and fabricating lab-scale tools/equipment that will be used bring new product ideas to life and prepare them for commercialization. Once a new product successfully advances through the proof-of-concept phase, our Mechanical Design Engineer will partner with peers from.

TemperPack's Engineering team to hand off the equipment design for scaling. No two projects will be the same and will require the successful candidate to be familiar with and comfortable operating in a hand-on capacity across all major engineering disciplines. While the ideal candidate is a mechanical engineer at heart, our Mechanical Design Engineer will utilize skills and knowledge of electrical/control systems, materials engineering, and more as part of the prototyping process. This interdisciplinary focus excites the ideal candidate and is perceived as an opportunity to evolve into a well-rounded engineer.

While the product development process is a collaborative and team effort, the Mechanical Design Engineer must be able to execute on his/her contributions to the project independently.

Essential Job Functions:

• Understand the market need driving a project forward
• Participate in product development process as the owner of bringing a product from an abstract idea to a prototype
• Conceive, flesh out, and document (CAD) equipment/tool/process designs for creating prototypes of new products ("quick and dirty," but safe!)
• Coordinate the outsourcing of part creation/machining as needed
• Operate various shop tools/hand tools (drills, saws, etc.) to create parts
• Assemble parts into a functional tool that will be used to advance team understanding of a new product
• Test equipment function and improve on the design throughout the product development cycle as needed
• Collaborate with Engineering department to hand-off designs for scale up
• Organize tasks and manage deadlines across multiple projects simultaneously
• Travel to vendor/supplier sites as needed
• Other duties as necessitated by the business

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge and understanding of most prototyping/machining techniques available (water jet, laser, etching, etc.)
• Ability to conceive clever designs that require minimal lead-time to fabricate
• Ability to stay on task with minimal supervision
• Ability to learn new skills
• Ability to work well under pressure and work with a sense of urgency to meet deadlines
• Strong organizational and project management skills
• Proficient using CAD software (SolidWorks, etc.)
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, etc.)

Education and Certifications:

• 5 years experience in hands-on mechanical engineering/fabrication role
• 5 years experience in mechanical design/CAD
• Welding experience (a plus, but not required)
• CAE/FEA experience (a plus, but not required)
• PLC design/programming experience (a plus, but not required)
• BS (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (or degree in other engineering discipline plus sufficient Mechanical Engineering experience)

Physical Requirements:

• Able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted
• Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks
• Ability to work in hot and cold environments
• Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts
• Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts
• Able to be active and on your feet
