Title: Director of Software Engineering
Location: Local & Hybrid to Columbia, Maryland
Security Clearance: Must be able to obtain (U.S. Citizenship is Required)
Compensation: $150k -$225k (bonuses and profit sharing in addition)
Position Type: Full-Time, Non-Contract position (Corporate Position)
We are a data sciences and analytics company specializing in the interpretation of data for IT enterprise, cyber, and the Department of Defense. We develop dual-use solutions for both private industry and the Federal Government. We are looking for an innovative Director of Engineering manager who will lead the team responsible for the design and build of a full stack SaaS application(s) and data pipelines, and thrive in a fast-paced, agile environment. This individual will partner closely with company leadership to build and enhance solutions that drive value for our quickly growing customer base.
As our Director of Software Engineering, we are looking for the following complement to our growing team: Be a consummate team playerDrive technology and product strategy for applications, architectures, and software development processesArchitect, build, and deploy new, complex technical products across multiple engineering teamsIdentify, advocate for, and execute ways to improve the developer experience within the companyCollaborate closely with product development on the product and technology roadmaps for complex effortsManage, coach, and develop software engineers and engineering managers across cross-functional engineering teams
Identify and mitigate technology risks in collaboration with leaders across the organizationFind ways to modernize product solutions to meet best practices and high-quality needs of the organization and businessBuild a culture of experimentation, innovation, and technical explorationSet and achieve aggressive goals to raise the bar on high achieving teamsNavigate and collaborate across teams and business units to solve complex problemsInstill an agile mindset across teams and equip teams to pivot fast and often as new information surfacesCoordinate with senior stakeholders across business units to inform technology and product decisionsIdentify short term and long-term engineering needs to scale platform solutions to meet customer demand
Ideal Candidate QualificationsStrong written and verbal English communication skillsFull stack engineering experience in an agile production environmentStrong background in agile methodologiesManaging two or more engineering teams and coaching and mentoringemerging leadersExperience leading the architecture, design, implementation, and release of complex products and applications that spans across multiple engineering teamsProficiency with JavaScript, jQuery, Neo4J, Springboot, React, Redux, and other languages and SQL Server or other object-oriented languages, front-end frameworks, and/or relational database technologiesStrong technologist with proven track record of learning new technologies and frameworksRelentless focus on and track record of delivering value for customersStrong analytical / quantitative problem-solving skillsExperience identifying and implementing improvements to organizational structure and processes to empower teams to own and deliver on their missionAbility to influence other teams and roles to prioritize and make improvements to their technical approach and processesExperience leading projects and teams across roles and geographiesMotivation, creativity, self-direction, and desire to thrive as a leader in a fast-paced organizationSuperior academic record with a degree in Computer Science or related technical field
Minimum Qualifications:B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalentexperience.Strong communication skills.10 years of software industry experience, including systems engineering, hardware engineering, or technical product/program management experience.8 years of people management experience leading teams to deliver technical programs or products from inception to delivery.Experience communicating and representing work to senior leadership and framing discussions to gain valuable feedback and experience working with technical management teams to develop systems, solutions, and products.Analytical and problem-solving experience with large-scale systems.Experience establishing and leading teams through multi-disciplinary relationships, including product management and engineering to drive product impact.
