Tally is Hiring a Remote Site Reliability Engineer

Money is the #1 source of stress for Americans, and Tally is on a mission to make people less stressed and better off financially. Tally supports consumers in their financial journey and enables them to manage their credit card debt, save money on interest, and pay off their debt efficiently.

We are building a team that strives for excellence in all things and is committed to living Tally’s values of Don’t Say Nothing, Own the Outcome, and Change Shoes Often. Learn more about our values and who we are here.

As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will be at the heart of Tally’s engineering process building software systems that empower engineering teams to develop and deliver reliable applications and services.

As Service Owners, we own and are responsible for the core infrastructure and services that power Tally Engineering. We use Site Reliability Engineering skills to not only fix problems, but solve the issues that contribute to them. If you’re interested in joining a growing team where you can have a large impact, read on.

Tech you may use: Kubernetes, PostgreSQL, Terraform / Terragrunt, HashiCorp Vault, Python, DataDog, CI/CD systems (GitLab and Jenkins), and various AWS services such as EC2, RDS, EKS, SSM and more.

The impact this role will have at Tally:

  • Design, build and deploy infrastructure primitives for delivering our cloud environment with containers, microservices, orchestration, and monitoring tools.
  • Design, develop and maintain robust CI/CD tools, and pipelines.
  • Use industry standard SDLC methodologies for managing infrastructure as code.
  • Build self-service capabilities to empower other engineering teams to self-provision, troubleshoot, and manage various application environments.
  • Automate manual tasks and improve your workflow.
  • Improve service reliability and observability.
  • Investigate and solve the causes of incidents and impacts to Service Level Objectives.
  • Partner with other Engineering teams within Tally to improve the scalability, observability and reliability of their applications.
  • Participate in daily scrum standups
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.

In this role we value:

  • You’re comfortable working with at least one server-side programming language (e.g. Scala, Java, Go, Python.), and know your way around IDE’s and other associated development tools. Note, SRE typically writes tooling and utilities using Python.
  • You know the cloud, and you’ve got experience with AWS, Google Cloud, or other cloud platforms.
  • You’re no stranger to containers and are familiar with container orchestration, and the tools and systems used to build, deploy, and manage them. (Kubernetes, ECS, Docker.)
  • Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and its associated toolsets are familiar territory to you. You’ve used Terraform or another other IaC tool to build, change, and manage infrastructure using typical SDLC workflows. You understand how to modularize your code for reusability.
  • Reliability, monitoring and observability are not just words to you. You can translate SLO’s and SLI’s into actionable improvements.
  • Automation, using CI/CD systems and tools to automate manual task work is one of your core values.
  • You have a solid foundation in Linux systems administration.
  • You’re a great communicator, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passionate about learning and constantly challenging yourself for continuous improvement.

A message from our leadership:

"One of our core values at Tally is 'Change shoes often.' We do this with our peers and our customers every day, and we want candidates to share in our commitment to empathy. Empathy really is the foundation of inclusion, and Tally prides itself in being a company that prioritizes inclusion and diversity. We’re dedicated to creating a workplace culture where people are included and treated equitably."
