As a valued member of our engineering team, you will join a group of highly engaged, focused, and collaborative engineers to manage hardware delivery timelines. We are looking for a generalist that is knowledgeable in a variety of biomedical engineering topics, but who is more importantly not afraid to roll up their sleeves, learn new things, and take on new challenges.

Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Develop an understand of a fluorescence detection system and establish the means to evaluate capability and key functional properties
• Understand the interaction of the fluorescence system with the mechanical and liquid handling modules within a diagnostic instrument
• Design, execute, and summarize experiments that combine biological and engineering elements
• Evaluate and suggest improvement to optical, mechanical and thermal subsystems
• Support technical aspects of Design Reviews and design risk analysis (dFMEAS) meetings
• Support Integration and Verification activities, including protocol and report authorship, test execution, and data analysis
• Support Failure Analysis and root cause investigations
• Coordinating with and leading other engineers to accomplish goals
• Mentoring team members in furthering their skills and careers
• Identifying and implementing process efficiency improvements
• Clear and concise communicator with good documentation
• Enthusiastic self-starter with an interest in biophotonics, thermal control systems and microfluidics
• Desire to be in a dynamic workplace with opportunities to expand skillsets and take on new responsibilities

Education/Skills/Requirements

• Ph.D. in physics, biomedical engineering, biophysics, electrical engineering, or related field; or MS degree in physics, biomedical engineering, biophysics, electrical engineering or related field, and 3 years of relevant work experience
• Experience in characterizing opto-mechanical systems with knowledge of fluorescence principals
• Experience in Medical Device development or pharmaceutical development is preferred
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills; enjoys openly communicating with cross-functional teams.
• Experience with QC and statistical process control is preferred
• Competent in Python or similar programming skills and willingness to learn as needed.
• Some knowledge of basic biochemistry underlying nucleic acid amplification technologies (PCR, isothermal, etc)
• Experience in IVD, molecular diagnostics, i.e. know about sample prep, lysis, amp/detection, signal/noise, assays, thresholds, data analysis, curve fitting, etc
