Job Description

Job Title: Project Engineer

Client: Tofel Dent

Location: Tucson, Arizona

Tofel Dent Construction is a uniquely structured third-party general contractor specializing in commercial, hospitality, and multi-family housing construction in the Southwest. Tofel Dent Construction has completed a wide variety of projects throughout Arizona, New Mexico, and California.

Purpose Statement

Under the direction of the Project Manager, the Project Engineer (E3) is responsible for assisting with the operational and financial success of an assigned project through successful project completion.

Essential Job Functions

  • Establish and maintain a professional relationship with the city building department officials and project architect regarding requests for information, submittals, ASI’s, plan changes and updates
  • Ensure any materials are ordered and delivered, track project deadlines and change orders.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of the overall project schedule, provide relevant parties an updated project schedule as needed, resolve and communicate scheduling conflicts to the appropriate parties and in a timely manner.
  • Assist in promoting a safety culture on the job site by communicating, supporting and enforcing safety policies and procedures, regularly walking the job and immediately notify Project Manager and/or Director, Safety of any safety violations.
  • Attends Pre-con and OAC meetings on a regular basis.
  • Assist in the evaluation of subcontractor/vendor proposals, subcontractor selections, subcontractor negotiations of terms and obtain and track relevant subcontractor documentation (i.e. signed Schedule D, Schedule of Values).
  • Verify, issue and track RFI’s, ASI’s and any plan drawing changes.
  • Assist in the oversight of subcontractor performance, work to resolve conflicts in the best interest of the company and provide evaluation and feedback to Project Manager and/or subcontractors.
  • Assist in project compliance with any local, state and/or federal requirements meeting industry and company quality standards at each stage of the project and correcting, as needed, any identified quality control issues.

Education and Work Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years construction project management experience, preferably in multi-family housing industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or equivalent years of experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and the ability to independently operate standard office equipment and software applications (MS Office).
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations and company safety regulations.
  • Familiarity with quality improvement standards while maintaining productivity.
  • Knowledgeable about construction industry (practices, jargon, MEPs) and company policy regarding maintain project flow
  • Ability to create a 4-week schedule by obtaining information from others and asking appropriate questions.
  • Ability to be accountable for actions/decisions.
  • Skill in reading project blueprints.
  • Ability to understand and/or develop, interpret and clearly communicate company policies, procedures and practices particularly as they relate to project and/or safety management.
  • Ability to model and implement ethical business practices demonstrating integrity and accountability when conducting business on behalf of the company.
  • Ability to manage and control the costs associated with a project including the associated expense reporting in accordance with the established practices, procedures and/or guidelines of the company
  • Skill in providing effective customer service including managing and resolving conflict appropriately and in accordance with company guidelines.
  • Using the English language, ability to read and comprehend written concepts, write business appropriate documents using correct grammar, speak so others understand, hear and understand others speaking.
  • Ability to converse/communicate using the Spanish language is helpful and preferred.
  • Ability to effectively and professional present information using public speaking skills.
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships with the ability to interact with all levels of the organization and professionally represent the organization when meeting and/or interacting with clients, subcontractors and outside vendors.
  • Ability to identify deficient work, use logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems, exercise good independent judgment in decision making and problem solving within the scope of the job.
  • Must have strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize, meet reporting and other deadlines and manage data and information effectively.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to read and interpret charts and graphs.
